I know that “placebo” is Russian for thanks. How did it come to mean a substitute for something?
Placebo is from the Latin “placere” or “to please”.
I thought Russian for please was “spasebaw”.
More specifically, placebo is first person singular indicative. In other words, it means “I please”.
