The really great thing is, it’s not just the Labour Party - *all *parties are reporting an upswing in new members in the last couple of days. There are also reports of a surge of new members joining the Red Cross, as well as the humanitarian organization Norwegian People’s Aid (Norsk Folkehjelp).
Who are they? A girl that got away mentioned that a member of them helped her and a group of others barricade themselves in a dorm during the shooting.
They are a humanitarian organization originally founded by the Norwegian Labour Movement. They do… well, a variety of stuff.
One of their volunteers was among the victims at Utøya, where they were providing first aid services.

Those Norsk Folkehjelp sound similar to the Spanish DYA (“Detente y Ayuda”, Stop and/to help), which as shown by their name started as a movement to get people to learn first-aid so they’d be able to assist others in car accidents but who have eventually grown to have their own ambulances, assist in mountain rescues, etc. Helluva folk, that kind of associations.

The survivers’ stories are slowly trickling out into the public. One 16- and one 17-year old apparently tried to stop Breivik. Thankfully, they survived despite failing in the attempt to stop him
