I didn’t want to hijack Finagle’s thread about the xbox’s stupid commercials so I’m starting my own.
(Ya, I think the xbox spot is really dumb, just for the record.)
Why has it become so trendy to dis people in the service industry in commercials anymore?
I give these examples:
The DishTV guy showing up at a house with some snot nose brat telling him to ‘get to it’. SNB’s parents are completely oblivious to what’s going on. SNB then tries to pay him with a jar of pennies with the parents looking on. This is funny?
Here’s a better one. CDW’s current spot. Fred the IT guy, seen from his perspective, listening to some complete morons grinning and describing what they did to fuck up the system. The spot ends with some grimacing asshole asking him “What’s wrong, we’re only asking the impossible.”
Anyone want to kick him it the teeth? I do, but as a professional one can’t give in to those feelings.
Here’s the topper. TNN’s running a spot, for the WWF I believe. Scantily clad girls wanting to watch WWF on there TV on some remote island, but their TV don’t work. So after a hard journey, a service tech shows up to fix it, and through his amazing ability to turn the power button on, takes care of the problem then collapses. One of the chesty teeny bops is over him, “OK, you can leave now. Hehehehehehe…….”
I just want to shoot her in the face with a bazooka.
Hey, I been in the service industry in various form since I’ll been working, and I have seen over and over again the attitude some people have, namely “I created a problem, and you better get over here and fix it you little asshole.”
I can live with that, you’re just stupid, plus your assholeishness is overcome by those who appreciate what we’re doing.
But seeing this stupid bullshit attitude portrayed in the TV spots as something funny, well, I gotta say, I’m missing the joke.
As a rant, I’d gotta give this one a low 3, maybe 2, but I hope ya folks see my point.
