I think maybe…Kurt Russell
Glen Danzig. (Second from the right.)
Short, stocky, dark hair, gravelly voice.
Glen was offered the role but he was unwilling to abandon his tour 4 weeks into it.
It would’ve been interesting as hell to see, though. Especially with that voice of his.
He’s a little tall and too old now by Hollywood standards, but for years when comparing dream X-Men cast lists with others I usually suggested Fred Ward. Rugged, gravelly voice, macho, old enough to sell the slow aging due to healing factor aspect of the character.
Mel Gibson-He’s got the pointy hair and everything.
Sly Stallone, although he’ sgetting a little long in the tooth. He’s got the right build and attitude.
The person originally intended to play the role: Russell Crowe.
Highjack -
Every time I hear his name, I say or think “He’s got a Huuuuuge Ackman!”
hrh
If they had made the movie the in 80s, Jack Nicholson would have won the role.
Fred Ward would have been awesome, Widdershins.
Don’t know his name, but the bartender in Fight Club definitely has a Wolverine aura to him. He’s just a bit too old, though…
The role was supposed to go to Dougray Scott, but he was delayed making Mission Impossible 2.
The first time Wolverine’s face was shown in the comics–I think it was X-Men #96, give or take a month–he was clearly based on then-hot actor Robert Blake. The hair and sideburns have taken ona life of their own since then.
Krokodil’s post reminds me that I once read an X-men issue (no cite) in which the artist had very clearly based Wolverine on Clint Eastwood. I think a younger Clint Eastwood would have done a great job, too.
i always thought harvey keitel would make a good logan, especially the way he looked in the piano (minus the facial tattoo)
I say Gary Sinise. Sure he’s tall and lanky (so’s Jackman but he made it work), but he’s got the vioce and the face for it.
Russell Crowe as Wolverine - OH YEAH.
Gary Oldman.
Hugh Grant!
when i was collecting comics (late eighties) i could only picture a version sometime around “cuckoos nest” of jack nicholson in the role.
dougray scott would have been good as well. hugh jackman does a good job, though. and i bet he was dirt cheap for the first movie.
my girlfriend likes him, really, she likes all those australian guys. i make fun of him and call him huge jackoff. that’ll teach him…
Okay, that is so not funny.
