It was always bullshit. Even her first donation, back in January. All sorts of people have been pointing out the problems with this whole convoy since it began. Her problem is, she wanted to believe the bullshit.
“No could have predicted this!” while ignoring everyone who did predict it.
ETA: and on the “temporarily one hopes” part, there are reports that she’s a horrible boss, with serious turn over problems. She might make good gelato, but her going out of business would probably be an overall plus.
Coffee shop near me closed early in the Pandemic, and blamed the restrictions. It turned out that he had been stiffing his employees for months before Covid even hit, and was known to be a complete asshole to work for.
Same as it ever was. They complained about how he never supported the oil industry in Alberta, and then, when he bought a pipeline project that was in danger of shutting down, they complained he was wasting money.
Oh, yeah, that was brilliant. The asshats went and advertised one of their planned routes for that day, and some local residents realized they were funneling themselves right into a near-perfect choke point*. About 25 people were able to bottle them in with very little effort or risk.
And these are the people who want to be put in charge of the whole country.
*Look at the map here. They were travelling west on Riverside towards the intersection with Bank Street, right where the Wendy’s is labelled. Riverside leading up to that point is a divided street, going one way, with curbs and (it being winter in Ottawa) snowbanks making escape almost impossible. It’s only two lanes, so you don’t need a lot of people to block it, and it’s a couple of hundred meters long, so you can fit a lot of pickup trucks in that stretch. And there’s several restaurants within a five minute walk or so, so the counter-protestors can be supplied with coffee and food with little effort.
What powers do you think he should have exercised? Ottawa is a city under provincial jurisidiction, in the province of Ontario. The federal government does not normally have any police authority in the city of Ottawa, except with respect to Parliament and federal buildings.
What do you think the PM should have done, so he wouldnt’ have been useless in your view?
Concrete examples, consistent with Canadian law, please.
Good try, but the point is not what he could have done, or what he did not do.
The point is that he is hated. That’s all. There’s no “why” or “what” involved.
For many in the Good Ol’ Convoy, that’s pretty much the only thing they wanted to get across.
Which requires consultation with the provincial governments, and a factual basis to support the argument that the situation is beyond the power of the province to do. All of that takes time and building a factual case, as well as earning political agreement from provincial premiers. It’s not something he can do just by snapping his fingers.
I don’t have enough information to know how much at fault he was. What I do know is that Ottawa police were spectacularly ineffective at handling this situation, and there are numerous verified instances of police openly supporting or sympathizing with the truckers.
coming from someone who can’t answer a simple question about the PM:
Hated by who? The Canadians who had to put up with this nonsense or the idiot truckers?
Who hates the PM?
I answered the question asked of me. The PM should have invoked the powers act. the response to that was that these things take time. No cite to back it up. Just a claim.
So I guess you didn’t actually read the link. Which says that, except in the most extreme circumstances, invoking the Emergencies Act requires consultation with the provinces and territories. Which takes time. Which was the point being made.
