Condolences. I’ve been through it and know how much it hurts.
In my head, I’m formulating a spinoff thread about that topic.
Pupdates:
My, but they can be bitey! I’m surprised they haven’t drawn a little of each other’s blood but they’re littermates, so they seem to know each other’s limits. Also they’re probably teething; we gave them their rawhide chews and that seemed to help. We’ve read that rawhide is really hard on digestion but if the foster used it, I would say it’s ok at least short term. Mrs. L is searching for a substitute, however.
We crated them in our bedroom for sleep. Beausoleil Bleu, a.k.a. “Blue,” seems to snore and talk a bit in his sleep. Jaxson Bleu, a.k.a. “Jax,” was quiet. We all slept well. This morning we let them out to pee and I asked Mrs. L, “So are we up now? Or do you want to crate them awhile longer?” She thought we’d put them in bed with us and nap a bit.
Um, no, they were awake, vying for our attention and sparring, tails wagging furiously.
Awhile later, they sprinted out of the bedroom, paws hurtling down the hall straightaway, hard left at the dining room, though the kitchen, left into the chicane (cross the living room, squeeze past fireplace and, struggling for traction on the bamboo floor, veer into the sunroom), out the French doors into the backyard. Nipping at each other’s heels as they accelerate, they’re like hellbent fighter jocks in hot pursuit around the perimeter. Then it’s full tilt back into the house. I’m glad they can run each other’s batteries down (I’m also glad the French doors were open).
Mrs. L, obviously smitten, declares, “Treats in the kitchen!” We cooked sweet potato and scrambled eggs, stuffing bones with the mix and froze them. The hound dogs haven’t figured out how to hold the bone between their paws, so they put their heads sideways on the ground to work on them, but as they lick them they push the bones away, so they keep having to scoot forward. But they love the confection.
The grandsons have really taken to them, and vice-versa. We didn’t have any activities planned for their visit, but the pups have completely filled our time.
In summary so far, so good. Monday, Blue and Jax start day care to help socialize them with other dogs.
I’m so happy for all of you!
I look forward to it.
Know that I am not a crusader on this. Far from it. I am thrilled you and your family are having a ball with the new puppies.
Of course. I can’t what I’m thinking…our love for animals defies some logic. Maybe with reading what others have to say it will be more comprehensible to me.
