This morning we had to take our beloved Cindy to the vet for a final visit. She developed congestive heart failure, and was unable to eat or even stand anymore.
Cindy was 14 years old, we adopted her four years ago from the Whidbey Animal Improvement Foundation, a non-euthanizing local shelter. We knew that her stay with us might be short because of her age, but that does little to assuage our current grief.
She never did learn to climb stairs very well, but she loved to play with balls. Even this weekend, as she grew weaker, she tried to play with the ‘ball’ feet of the sofa. She was so upset that she couldn’t get those ‘balls’ out from under there:)
For a year she was a ‘working dog’, going with Mrs. danalan to the nursing home every day and doing pet therapy. You know how they sometimes put tennis balls on the feet of peoples walkers to provide traction or something? Bad idea with Cindy about. Several times the Mrs. found her dragging some little gray-haired lady down the hall by the walker!
Noooooooooooooooooooooo! Sorry to hear about your loss.
BTW: I have border collie (mixed) named Cyndi. She going on about 9 yrs now. She’s my best pal in the world. I can’t imagine being without her. I feel for you, Danalan.
In empathy: I have a 13 year old cat who may be heading for the litter box of no return. He has kidney disease and hyperthyroidism. He’s getting really weak and lost a lot of weight. He doesn’t seem to want to eat much anymore. He’s on medicine and special food, but I dunno how long he will last. This cat has been with me nearly half of my life. I’m not looking forward to the day when he is gone, but I’ve been trying to prepare myself for the grief.
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. We lost our dog last summer and I know how hard it can be to lose a pet. It sounds like your Cindy was a wonderful companion. She was lucky to have such a loving family.
