Out of these options, which is your favorite type of spirit?

My usual is gin & tonic.

For straight spirit, Irish whiskey or bourbon.

Bourbon, mostly. Old Crow, or if I’m feeling wealthier, Knob Creek.

Then gin, in tonic with lime, or tomato juice with a bit of hot sauce, or orange juice. No martinis, please.

I’ll drink a nice scotch occasionally.

Just to be sociable, I’ll down a shot or two of tequila, but I’d rather have something else.

I like Malibu coconut rum way too much, so I don’t buy it very often.

Brandy is wasted on me. I just don’t appreciate it.

I have no use for vodka.

I usually take a vodka and tonic. What kind? I don’t care.

Bourbon, followed by single-malt scotch. The rest don’t even register on my scale.

  1. Blanton’s Bourbon
  2. Michter’s Rye
  3. Patron Anejo Tequila
  4. Pritchards’ Rum

Vodka
Grappa
Rum

  1. Vodka
  2. Gin
  3. Tequila

Vodka and Gin with just a finger of tonic for the first drink and just keep topping it off as the night goes on. Tequila depends on how I feel that night, sometimes tonic, sometimes Roses lime and some Grand Mariner or Contreiu (sp).

Gin

If you asked me a few years ago, I would have said

Whiskey
Gin
Vodka

I’ve really gotten into drinking straight vodka, though.

I’d go with gin. I love gin. Not straight, but with tonic water. That will keep the malaria at bay! And tastes damned fine.

…was I the only one hoping it would be a thread about your favorite kind of ghost? Yes? Okay then.

I’d like to clarify that by ‘topping it off’ I mean topping of the booze only. Usually by the second or third drink, it’s straight.

Did I miss something? Am I the first to prefer brandy? (Straight cognac or armagnac, that is)
I also like rum for my drinks, an irish whiskey on the rocks now and then (Or Lagavulin, the devil’s own!), gin tonic, and i’m even starting to like tequila (Has anyone tried flatliner shots? tequila, tobasco and sambucca… sounds terrible, but tastes strange and quite good). I absolutely hate the taste of vodka, but very rarely I like a shot of 120 proof just for the warm feeling.
And, you forgot Absinthe! Haven’t had any for quite some time, but a good absinthe can be great… and a bad one can be really horrible.

I don’t drink spirits much, but I guess if I had to it would be Vodka.

My preference is for whiskey – Scotch whiskey; I’ve tried Irish (Jameson’s, Tullamore Dew), and it’s just got no flavor!

As for gin – urk! Who thought that up?!

Favorite: Whiskey (Bourbon).

Least Favorite: Gin.

If by favorite you mean drunk most often, mine would be bourbon…Wild Turkey 101 primarily, drunk neat.

If by favorite you mean which do I like best, the answer would be single-malt scotch…again drunk neat.

However, I’ve been blessed with the ability to like almost everything when it comes to food and booze so I also like, in order by most frequently imbibed:

Tequila
Gin
Rum
Vodka
Brandy
Irish whiskey

And on preview, I’m surprised at you, BrainGlutton, referring to scotch as whiskey.

That’s what it usually says on the bottle . . . maybe it would be different if I could afford single-malts.

Gin, then brandy. But I don’t generally keep either in the house. I had a bottle of brandy, but I’m making that into a liqueur at the moment.

Whisky…George Dickel, Jameson’s or a single malt Scotch once in a while
Gin…Tanqueray and Schweppe’s, nothing finer on a hot summer afternoon

Why even bother with vodka?

My spirited list would be something like this

single malt whiskey, straight but tastes great with chocolate!
cognac, anytime
calvados, after a sweet dessert
gin, but only with tonic
rum, as a 60% mixed with tea and brown sugar and a slice of lime
vodka, straight and from a milk glass
aquavit, but only with lots of lutefisk
moonshine with coffee and a teaspoon of sugar (should be on top of the list)

bourbon
