Hi. How ya doin’?
Since the house sale is going so well and I just have more plans than sense, I was wondering: How many Dopers are there near me that like to do outdoorsy stuff? It could be a one-day hike like RTFirefly put together. Or it could be a family-reunion-style picnic somewhat akin to lno’s Porkapalooza, only with less pork per person. Or it could be a weekend-long campout with a family-reunion-style picnic on Saturday with hikes and games and stuff thrown in on top along with the Miss OutDope Pageant (swimsuit competition, flannel wear competition, rainwear competition and tallent).
But before I start spewing ideas, I was wondering who wants to play along and where you are so I can plan accordingly. (Yeah, yeah, this is more a multi-part poll and should go over in IMHO, but it’s DopeFest related (sorta) and I thought here would work better.)
Also, we need a name. Like the MAD Outdoor Club only better. (Since we’re not MAD’s.) That way if I ever put something together I can use the nifty code word and no one else will know what I’m talking about.

OK, I’m givng this one more ride through the front page and then I’m letting it die the quick death it (obviously) deserves and I will think on it no more forever.
The wife and I are all for outdoorsy stuff. Hiking is good. Camping may also be good. I’ll have to check with the Mrs. about the Ms. or Mrs Dope competition.
If your into really advanced planning we could aim for this. We did it last year and it was a blast.
OK, I know I said I’d just let this die… but I LIED! (Sue me.)
Hi Jimson. It’s nice to know I’m not just talking to myself here. Anyway…
Do you know about Letterboxing? It sounds real cool. Sorta like Geocaching only different. (No GPS needed.) There might even be Letterboxes near you. (Assuming you just clicked on here and aren’t specifically a Cincy Doper.) There are a whack of them near me.
So. Does this sound like fun? I’m thinking of trying it out soon and was wondering if I should tell anyone in advance or just after the fact.

If you ride dirtbikes, there are some sites that have location forums to find people close to you.
If you don’t you should honestly try it sometime. It’s a great way to spend family time, and you will meet some wonderful people. You can really see some beautiful things that way.
Hey Rue, whatever happened to the “Kentucky Scottish Weekend” plans at General Butler State Park? Izzat still happenin’?
Ok, if there is going to be any sort of Doper get together around here (Northern KY/Cincy) it can’t be at General Butler, that’s more than half way to Louisville! For the sheer sake of name alone it has to be at Big Bone Lick State Park, convieniently located on Beaver Lick road. They have a much better camp site and picnin area in my opinion anyway. If you want real outdoorsy stuff, we could make a Saturday of it and go down to Red River Gorge.
The Kentucky Scottish [url=http://www.kystateparks.com/genbutlr.htm]Weekend (two links!) is May 9 - 11, Howard. As far as I know there’s no OFFICIAL Doper plans, but then again, you could get on that.
Also, there’s the British Isles Fest June 14 & 15. I might get something organized for that one. (Or not. We’ll see what my schedule looks like.)
Heh. Big Bone Lick.
