Outlook 2000 signatures

I just changed my signature in Outlook 2000. I used Word to modify the signature (signature tool will let you edit signature with “advanced edit” which brings the sig up in Word). I have mail configured to use HTML format. This signature works fine for sending mail and for responding to HTML and rich text mail.

But if I respond to a plain text email, the old signature comes up, even though it is not visibly available anywhere in the Outlook signature picker. The MS support site was useless on this point.

Any ideas?

This thread got some viewers but zero responses. I finally found out what the issue is, in case anyone is interested.

This is what I will call an undocumented feature of Outlook 2000.

If you use HTML or Rich Text format in your email and use Word to prepare your signature, a reply in plain text or a forward will use the most recent plain text signature established. Even if that signature is no longer available in the signature picker!!

I determined by trial and error that the workaround is to save the current signature defined in Word. Then change your email format to plain text. Then edit your signature, which will have been changed from the Word signature to a plain text version. Make the plain text signature look the way you want for plain text messages. Then switch back to HTML or Rich Text format. Then return to edit the signature. Bring it up in Word and restore from the saved version.

The plain text signature you just prepared will no longer be accessible but that is the sig that will come up when you reply to plain text, or forward.
