A 6 year old shot a 5 year old with a gun the parents didn’t know was in their home on Sunday.

Authorities say they do not believe that either of the parents knew a handgun was present inside the home, above, where Daron Mayes, 5, was accidentally shot and killed.
The parents of Daron Mayes have not been charged in the shooting death, which occurred when the boy and a 6-year-old relative were playing with a gun they found in a bedroom of a Kearney Street home.
“We have no reason to believe that either of the parents are aware that a handgun was present inside the home,” said Passaic County Chief Assistant John Latorraca. “At this junction, there are no charges as to them.”
Another relative, 23-year-old Jalik Jones, illegally purchased a .380 handgun and kept the loaded weapon in a bedroom he shared with Daron. Jones was charged with reckless manslaughter and purchasing an illegal handgun in the death, and police and state records confirmed Tuesday Jones recently served a little more than four months in prison on a theft charge.
