Overlord was a fun game (I’m just now playing it) but there were some issues. The big one: no overhead map. I am starting to get to the point where I’m not totally lost, but a map would be useful. (I had a few others when I thought of this thread this morning, but I’ve forgotten now - I hate getting old!)
I’m afraid I don’t have any answers about the sequel unfortunately, I’m just playing the original Overlord for the first time myself.
I just wanted to say I completely agree with you about the inadequate map system. I’m enjoying the game but I’m still not completely sold on it. I like the minions in particular but the game is absolutely crying out for a more comprehensive overhead map. I want to be able to blow up the mini map and see the entirety of the area I’m in that I’ve explored thus far. I also want them to add in markers for the various quests. I’ve conquered/liberated the village of Spree and wandering around Mellow Hills I’ve added a bunch of quests to my log but I don’t know where to go to actually do them if I’m trying to come back and do them later. (And, consequentially, I’m wandering around aimlessly more than I should be.)
The game feels like it has a ton of potential but at the moment I don’t know if I’ll actually bother playing much further. I hate feeling lost. It’s one of my biggest pet peeves with these types of games. If any developers are reading this, please, don’t make navigation a chore! Clearly notate your important landmarks and quest objectives, I beg of you!
Just after I found my blue minions hive the system froze. I now have no blue minions AND when I go back to where the hive is - it isn’t there. I have to start over!
So far Overlord II is Overlord I without the annoying ‘fetch my bags’ style quests and a few more neat little mini quests where you possess a minion directly.
I don’t know how I feel about it. It lacks something that I can’t quite put my finger on. Still if you get through Overlord I and want more of the same it’ll give it to you.
