Overrated food and drink (brands)

But over $5 though. No matter how special they might be (to you) , they are still just fries - fried potato parts.

Speaking of fries and Taco Bell, their nacho fries are nowhere near as good as the commercials make them out to be.

That post could have been shorter.

“they’re”, ha ha ha !

Ah, man, there used to be a Counter right across the street from my house, but it didn’t survive the pandemic. I really miss that place.

Vinegar is essentially water with 4-6% ethanoic acid. Whether that acid is added to water or the result of bacterial fermentation doesn’t really make much of a difference in this case.

Edited to add - I guess it’s not real MALTED vinegar, but it’s still vinegar.

I never understood the disdain for Chipotle. IMO it’s the highest quality fast food you can get. The meat is well seasoned and cooked as needed on the spot, as well as the beans and rice. The toppings are all fresh. Whenever someone says “ugh Chipotle is nasty”, I wonder exactly what’s nasty about it?? I think it gets the hate it does mainly because it’s so popular. Now the employees are often surly and sloppy, but that doesn’t really take away from the food itself.

Nah. Their nacho fries commercials are on a whole other level.

I’ve tried them. Unlike the rest of their menu, once was enough for me; pretty sure I didn’t even finish the ones I had.

The nacho fries used to be good. Then they went away, and when they came back, the fries had been changed to weird extruded mashed potato things. I don’t know why they have to completely change something that was good. We can’t have anything nice anymore.

I would not say Chipotle is “nasty” but it is “meh” at best.

The promise of a yummy meal is there but they do not deliver. Weirdly bland.

It’s ok at best. Nowhere near worth the acclaim they seem to get.

I’d choose them over BK or McDs if they were all next to each other but I will not go out of my way for one either.

Need to get the Barbacoa - that meat actually has some decent spice to it.

“Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. has agreed to pay a $25 million criminal fine and institute a comprehensive food safety program to resolve criminal charges that it adulterated food that sickened more than 1,100 people across the United States from 2015 to 2018.”

There were more recent cases here in CA.

It does if their shit attitude caries over into safety and food handling.

If you add alcohol to grape juice does that make it wine? Now in the case of clear cleaning vinegar, sure, but Malt vinegar is a vinegar made from malted grains of barley.

Same here. Now sure maybe it is a little less ‘authentic’ and a little more expensive, but it’s still good. Not great, however.

A medium dirty burnt water is over $3 out the door, too. Dunkin is about the same.

Chipotle, before McDs bought them was decent. After McDs took over they just cheapened and cheapened, reaching nadir a few years later as @Dorjan has posted. But in the pre-McDs days in much of the country they more or less invented and owned the quickie assembly line burrito category. And developed a loyal following when the only other fast-food choices were mostly burgers plus KFC. Then once McDs showed up and funded a McD’s-scaled advertising blitz, the hype took on a life of its own that was ever less justified by the realities in the stores.

In the parts of the country where Qdoba operated, they were the same food & service concept being built out at about the same time as Chipotle but done well, not cheaply.

I’ve not had either in a number of years so I can’t speak to how their food is today.

Amen! Guess what I had for breakfast today? Three jalapeño sliders! Though I have to say their breakfast offering is as good as McDonald’s McMuffin. But I was in a hamburger mood at 8 am today. I absolutely love White Castle, though I often go months without one. No nostalgia factor, really. I just think they are awesome for what they are, which is not hamburgers, but sliders. Krystal doesn’t compare. And no restaurant “slider” I’ve ever had could even get the concept right. They are not just mini hamburgers. They are their own thing. Pillowy bites of gooey goodness.

Does this mean it’s time again for the bi-monthly “You’re all uncouth peasants” thread?

Because I actually think In-N-Out, or Chipolte, or whatever, tastes good, then there’s something wrong with me? It’s never you that’s wrong. Or that maybe, no one is wrong, and it’s just taste. The falling over yourselves to prove you’re more sophisticated got old years ago.

I think I’m going to go to a wine bar, and order milk. And read some fiction!

Across the street from where I work is a Chipotle and a Pollo Loco. Having eaten at both, my personal tastes run to Pollo Loco.

Now, I want Pollo Tropical. There are no Pollo Tropical’s for hundreds of miles. Good things in Florida- My family, To The Moon ( a fantastic candy shop), Pollo Tropical.

Pollo Loco in the Southwest & Pollo Tropical in FL are two different flavors. But both are excellent quick food IMO. Much better than battered and fried chicken.
