I’m Midwesterner and I’ve always put mustard on burgers; that’s one thing I hate about McD they don’t even offer mustard packs
Stouffer’s “lasagna with meat and sauce” was my favorite frozen meal for years, but in the past few years it seems to have gone downhill and doesn’t have much flavor anymore.
The meatloaf with mashed potatoes, and the salisbury steak with mac & cheese, are still pretty good though.
IMO you’ll be massively disappointed. Their claim to fame is their “butterburger”, where supposedly they add some butter (margarine blend perhaps?) to the burgers while cooking. I was not impressed the one time I tried the local outlet where I used to live. It had plenty of customers though.
A remarkable (to me) percentage of people do not want “good” food. They want “familiar” food.
Their whole measure of merit is that this meal be exactly like the last one. To the degree it’s different it’s worse, period.
Not my style; not even remotely. But now having dealt with several people who think and eat that way, I can attest it’s a real phenomenon.
They don’t cook or treat the patties with butter, they butter the crown of the bun.
I haven’t been there in years but I used to work near enough to line to get lunch there sometimes and I remember their mushroom Swiss being good.
Surprised no one has mentioned Starbuck’s coffee.
Some things are simply unmentionable in polite company. ![]()
Or carbonated soft drinks, Coca Cola and their ilk are highly overrated imo. My boss sent a twelve pack of cherry coke, said enjoy! Lol thx but I’m pouring it out on greasy garage stains.
Your boss sent a twelve-pack of Coca-Cola as a gift?
This took me a minute. I couldn’t figure out why you were so descriptive in your disdain. Then I realized you meant to use it as a cleaning product.
I already got a raise what more could he do? Lol. He tries to keep the minions in good spirits, sometimes it’s
from Heidi’s.
Anything to get rid of it and cash in the cans. ![]()
He sent you Coca-Cola from a Swiss novel character?
If you want a true Wisconsin butter burger, go to Solly’s in Milwaukee. Click on the “Butter burger menu” in the link.
Now THAT is an amazingly delicious butter burger, with stewed onions and at least 2 tablespoons of butter. Looks like a mess, tastes divine! I limit myself to visiting maybe twice a year.
I thought the same thing. But then I thought they’d start with greasy garage stains, but end up with greasy, sticky garage stains. I’m not sure how much that’s helping. ![]()
I was very excited to finally have White Castle back in the 70s. What a total disappointment that mess is.
I’m actually glad to hear that. Never had a White Castle, never will, because I hate onions, and grilled onions are standard on a White Castle. But I’m probably not missing anything. Never been to Culvers, but if I ever get the chance, I will pounce on it. People make it sound sooooo good.
Now, where I am, we have Sheetz, which is a gas station with an attached convenience store and quick-serve snack bar. I never ate there until a couple years ago, when we were coming back from a concert with friends, who were driving and said “Let’s get something at Sheetz!” Had a hot dog and curly fries and I have never looked back. The hot dogs are absurdly cheap, yet they fill me up just as well as a Dave’s Single, and these are the only curly fries I’ve encountered that did not have enough chili powder to short out my tongue. The breakfasts are easily as good as at McD’s, and the pizza is no Papa John’s, but is adequate.
But the main draw for me is, not only is the food hot, fresh and tasty (like some FF places promise but don’t always deliver), but it comes up fast. And the workers are pleasant. I stopped going to the McD’s across the way when it became clear that I was intruding on the staff’s conversations and interrupting them from texting their friends. At Sheetz, they’re very brisk and businesslike, and they’ve never gotten an order wrong. Certainly no one’s ever thrown attitude that I’ve seen.
Sticky floor? Good point, instead I’ll pour it down the sink, to prevent clogs.
Heh, mustard-
Over here in S. GA, mayo is the worshiped condiment. At the local burger/chili dog joint, they serve their burgers automatically with ketchup and mayo.
Yuck.
Canadians often put mustard on burgers. Never realized (as you claim) most Americans don’t. I love mustard - wish more places had hot mustard, grainy old-fashioned, good Dijon. Canadians do tend to like vinegar on their fries too (a UK thing?), In many countries this is not remotely a thing, you may get a funny look, and sometimes you settle for salad dressing (Italian is pretty good with potato). In Québec mayonnaise is popular, and the best fry places serve modified mayonnaise (e.g. add any dry rub or harissa to mayonnaise, yum).
Where I grew up, southern Maine, near OOB, malt vinegar was always a condiment for fries. Especially in summer when we got a lot of Quebekker tourists.
I love vinegar on fries. If I get fish-n-chips, I’m more likely to use the vinegar on the fries as opposed to the fish.
Ranch dressing or bleu cheese is a good match for fries, too.
I’m not “crapping on” anybody, or judging anyone’s taste. There is a natural human-animal attraction to fat and salt, and cheap fast foods like McD’s cater to that.
My buddy was a fast food fan, but recently he ate some and realized it was crap. Just like myself. Yes, I still enjoy In&Out and Popeyes, but no longer McD, BK, Carls, Wendys ect etc. Jack in the box? Their ‘tacos’ and their curly fries are just about it.
A remarkable (to me) percentage of people do not want “good” food. They want “familiar” food.
In one Bay area shopping center there is or was a McD and also a In&Out. I asked the guys and In&Out how on earth the McDs stayed in business, and he answered simply- “Kids.” Kids prefer Mcds to In&out.
Surprised no one has mentioned Starbuck’s coffee.
You have to do that like I do for Jack in the Box “tacos”=Starbuck’s “coffee”.
I have to admit I was out on a field trip with a Starbux fiend (she had one of those special order things, half this, and that etc) and it was hot and I was lagging. She suggested a frappuccino, Okay, not bad, plenty of caffeine and sugar, kept me going. Then i realized it had about the same fat, HFCS and calories as a fast food meal.!

I have had several of their frozen cheeseburgers- not bad, and altho I am with you on onions, you barely notice them.

I do too, and it is way, WAY better than mayo. yukc. One of the reasons i cant do BK anymore. I eat mayo only on BLTs now.
I love vinegar on fries.
Did you know that- at least in England- the “malt vinegar” stuff isnt really vinegar?
Food News Roundup: That Malt Vinegar With Your Fish And Chips Isn't Really Vinegar - Food Republic.
The Guardian reports that the vinegar served at British fish and chip shops is actually water, ethanoic acid, color and flavor rather than real malt vinegar that is brewed from alcohol. And it’s been happening for decades.
