Ow, My Hangover, Or How We Became Catholic: An MMP

YAY LiLi IS BACK! We missed you! I’m curious: what motivated the switch to Catholicism? Excellent MMP, and honestly I can’t think of a better way to celebrate being confirmed than by getting drunk. I went drinking Friday night myself, and managed to avoid a hangover. Go me!
Speaking of burning, here’s a pun:

Today I get to cover a lecture in the class I’m TAing. I do enjoy public speaking, so it should be fun, even though I’ve never done a class-type lecture before.

Oh, and if there’s anyone here who’s on Facebook, y’all need to join the group I started: The Society for the Return of Hats.

Happy Monday everyone!

**LI-LI’S BACK!! YAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!!! **

I was born and raised RC. I am now lapsed, however, until such time as the good Father in Rome sees fit to allow women priests, birth control, and marriage for the clergy. I don’t ask for much.

I suspect our boo fae has led a rather hedonistic existence up until she met 'im indoors.

stg, good luck with your surgery. From what I hear, gall bladder ectomies are much better than they were years ago.

All those currently involved in job search report immediately to the MMP.

bobbio, did I miss you acquiring another doggio?

Got Mom moved into her new apartment on Saturday. Between myself, BarbeeDoll[sup]TM[/sup], her hubby, and Mr. Anachi we got all the boxes moved and emptied within a matter of hours. We did hire movers for the heavy furniture and it was well worth it. So she should be happy now for a couple of months.

Our weather was a tad cool but nothing compared to what you yanks got. Mr. Anachi says li-li and her bunch let their cold air out again. Take it back please.

I got a busy day today so I’d best get to it.

Tupug

bobbio, nevermind, went back to last week to see the new baby. Heh! Squeeness ensues.

The job interview I had last week was a first rounder. The first round interviews end today. So, I’m guessin’ they’ll spend a little time lookin’ over the results and then let everyone know whether or not they made the cut. So that’s all I got for now.

I want to leave and go hunt down cheap chocolate but I can’t because I’m havin’ to wait on the phone folks to show up. My stoopit landline has decided to die… grrrrrrrr… this happens every spring, I swear! It’s always with the connection from the little phone line thingy at the street. Still I gotta sit around waitin’ on ‘em. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR… I hate, hate, hate waitin’ on stuff like this! Usually I wouldn’t care one way or another if the dang thing worked or not but since people might be tryin’ to call me about job interviews and such, this stresses me out! GRRRRRRRRRRR…

StG good luck with the surgery. Like puggy said, a gall bladder yankin’ seems to be nuttin’ like it used to be. I’ll be keepin’ ya in my thoughts and prayers.

bobbio I checked out the pics of the newest acquisition. She’s a cutie! Boxer puppies always look so goofy cause it’s like they haven’t grown in to their big feet yet.

Freya is 14 weeks old, and her feet are every bit as big as Loki’s; he’s about a year and a half old. She’s gonna be a big 'un…

Morning, all. Great OP, LiLi, and congrats on becoming a hungover Catholic! I was raised liberal Protestant, the kind that feels more like a social club than an actual church but have always enjoyed visiting Catholic churches for the ritual (even though, like Puggy, I’d want to see some changes before I joined the Church), but Papa Tigs was raised Catholic but left it when they switched to the mass in English. He’d been an altar boy, alternating daily mass with another kid and traveling with the priest out to several rural parishes on Sunday so he went to church lots and lots and lots, but he left because he was annoyed that now everybody would understand what they were saying. But in true drunken Catholic fashion, he had a few good escapades. One of the local women made yummy homemade wine for communion wine, apparently, and one time he and another kid snuck in and drank up an entire year’s supply. They were, by all accounts, completely unrepentant.

It’s very quiet around here without Lapin Blanc. And the dogs are quite depressed, especially Isaac, whose love for her knows no bounds. We’re talking complete and total Twu Wuv. Oh well, they’re just gonna have to be stuck with me for a few days till they go to the Doggie Vacation Place and get spoiled for a few days while we’re all out of town! And Lapin Blanc does report that my mom is doing pretty well, so there is that.

Note to self: Talk to Mae across the street about feeding the cat in our absence.

I’m looking forward to hearing about dance class again, LiLi. I’ve missed cringing at the pain that must be involved in what you do (or at least would be if I tried it!).

Good luck with the gall bladder removal, StG! These days it’s a snap compared to how it used to be. When my dad had his out lo these many years ago, it involved slicing him half open and two weeks in the hospital recuperating. These days it’s a couple teensy incisions. A definite improvement!

So is the new canine acquisition a permanent family member, Bobbio, or is she another foster? In any case, good luck resisting those big eyes!

Lordy, I spent some time looking for page two. I need medication or a drink or something…

Welcome back, Missy Lissar! Tell your significant other that I have his sinus portion of the Sick. I’d rather have the coughing portion, could we trade?

Off to do a reference interview for class. I thought I’d ask about physiatry and where to find one. See what happens. Homework and class today. Oh, and I admitted an 80 year old drug addict yesterday at work. Good times…

BioTigs, Freya is permanent. Unless I strangle her first…

She is quite exuberant, after all.

Welcome back, LiLi! Great OP. Good for you for getting communionized, or however you say it! (I’m not very religious, can you tell? :D) Tell Mr. Lissar to hurry up and feel better. The MMP says so!

Cute puppy there, Bobbio!

BooFae, I didn’t know you had such talents! Fire-breathing?? Too cool!

StG, I have to have my gall bladder out sometime, too. I have a huge gallstone about the size of a quarter in diameter. Hurts some, but not bad enough to do anything about it just yet. Good luck! It is very non-invasive these days, so I hear.

:: waves at MBG as he rushes off to meetings ::

Happy Monday, MMP!

I cleaned off my kitchen counter yesterday, and found a Christmas card from an old friend I haven’t seen in over three years. I e-mailed her today. It will be fun to catch up when she writes back.

That’s all I got. Have a good one, guys and gals…

I feel the need to make that lame joke about how Baptists ignore each other at the liquor store. But I won’t.

I arrived at work to find my chair buried under tax returns. It’s going to be a long week.

Welcome back LiLi!

I am going to mark this holiday on my calender and shall celebrate it with vodka and rejoicing.

I don’t have much else to add, other than I forgot it was Easter yesterday until Meli and I tried to go out for dinner and found the practically every resturaunt was closed for the day (naturally this did not occur to us until after we had driven 15 minutes to the closest Panera). My memory truly can be a marvel at times.

“Sex standing up leads to dancing, and dancing leads to playing **cards!!!”**

I did have a big glass of Driving Husband’s punch, so… maybe three kinds of wine, a hard cider, and a mixed drink that counts for three. Seven. Unless I drank something else and don’t remember. Anyway, I didn’t drink a Commodore justice (rum, more rum, still more rum, vodka, limoncello, melon liquer, grenadine, orange juice). Mr. Lissar did. If you drink two, you can no longer feel your face.

Drae, I might accept your challenge, but not for a least a week. Aagh. Yesterday is still too clear in my memory.

Spats, I’ve started a few threads about our conversion. If you search my name and thread titles with Catholic in them, there are a number of explanations. And getting drunk is the right way to celebrate everything except finding out you’re pregnant.

Mork, the weather is not my fault. I draw the line at snow in April. When Attacks Husband’s girlfriend arrived from Hawaii on Thursday, it was -10. She tried to get right back on the plane.
rigs, do you really want to cough until you puke every morning? Mr. Lissar might agree to trade.

Congrats! Now, I got a little rosary in the mail the other day (I get Catholic junk mail!)–would you like it? It has little Pope John Paul II medals on it…and I don’t know what to do with it.

It is most excellent to see you back Li-Li. That was a great MMP.

I was baptized Catholic, but never made it to first communion because my folks were in the middle of a nasty divorce.

To be honest, I’m not religious either. In fact, if one were to look at statistics, one would see that the Pacific Northwest is the least church going area in the United States. I guess it’s because we’re all independent minded and such.

For myself, I’m just not quite sure what to believe in, if anything. So, there you have it.

The dog is a cutie Bobbio. It’s nice that Loki will have a playmate. Our dog has only us, his people, as playmates. One dog is enough, thank you. I just don’t have enough of a yard to support more than one dog anyway.

StG, good luck with the surgery. Todays’ version is quite easy, but I can still understand being a little aprehensive. I had my gallbladder removed 21 years ago. Back in those days, they still sliced you open and one had to stay in the hospital for several days, followed by a six to eight week recuperation period.

You are all probably wondering why I am posting on a Monday morning. Well, I had a time off award coming and I decided to use it. It’s nice to have the house to myself for a few hours. In just a little bit, I’m going to put some pork in the slow cooker so I can make pulled pork sammiches for dinner.

Then, I’ll clean the kitchen, take a shower, do some laundry. I also have a couple of errands to run. That’ll be my exciting day. Aren’t you all jealous? I knew you would be.

Ugggggggggggggggh I got about 4 hours asleep last night working on my thrice-cursed thesis. I don’t even know what I’m writing about anymore. I just want it to be over. Please?

Happy Monday, everyone! LiLi, glad to have you back, and congrats on joining the fold. It doesn’t matter how drunk you get, you know, as long as you feel guilty afterwards.

Off to finish my incoherent ravings, then turn it in to my advisor.

Welcome back, Li-Li. we’ve missed you. I have the same cough Mr. Lissar has and I would like for mine to leave, too. I haven’t had more than two hours straight sleep in weeks because I wake myself up coughing.

I have to go to the store to get a ink cartridge for the printer, and some colored paper, and some envelopes, so I can finish Connor’s scrapbook by tomorrow for the host family/player party. I really don’t feel like leaving the house. It’s kinda chilly out there. Who left the door to Canada open?

Speaking of hi-octane drinks - there was a bar on Waikiki Beach called the Crow’s Nest, and they served one of those “lots of different liquor you can’t taste” drinks in a huge fishbowl. If one person managed to drink one by him/herself and could still stand up/didn’t throw up, they got a t-shirt. On the front it read “I drank a Super Schooner at the Crow’s Nest”. On the back in read “And walked on my lips down Waikiki Beach”.

Good times. Mr. SCL and I shared one. Tasty intoxication.

Welcome back LiLi!! We missed you!

Sorry to hear about your brother, Ellen.

Good luck as usual to the job-seekers and to Haze. I’m sooooooo glad I did a non-thesis Master’s!

Cute puppy, bobbio!! We also had a pet-tastic weekend, but unfortunately I don’t have any pix at the moment. Well, there are pix on the camera but not uploaded yet. I know, I know! I shouldn’t even be talking about new pets without pix. Oh well.

Anyway, we got two Russian hamsters on Friday. SOOOOOOOOOOO cute! They’re all fat and fuzzy. When they sit up to eat, they look like perfectly round fuzzy balls with eyes. They’re really curious, and by Sunday afternoon we were able to take them out of their cage and let them run around on the floor. One of them peed on me and the other pooed on KeithT. :stuck_out_tongue: Oh well. Unfortunately, they’re having quite a battle for dominance and we’re not sure at this point whether it’s normal or goes beyond what we should expect. We’re trying to decide whether to keep both of them or to return one to the store. We’ll see. But either way, they’re really cute.

To tell the truth, I don’t drink much–but we could let the others pick up the slack.

Job interview went pretty well … they don’t have a corporate dress code, which makes me very happy. I know they’ve got a couple people still to see, so I get to wait now.

They gave me a couple simple tests, one of which is a personality test that asks if you’ve ever stolen office supplies. Who the hell hasn’t stolen office supplies???

Great OP, lili. Welcome back!

Skunk took his last pill this morning. Hurray! The truly hilarious part was that Keisha has figured out that when I take out the little white pill, it’s wet food time! So I’m trying to pill one cat, while the other is mewing and twining around my feet.

You’re a brave man, Bobbio, having Freya and Loki in the same house. Are you planning on letting the PastaKids take turns pulling Freya’s chariot? Aren’t you worried you’ll have Hel to pay?

Good afternoon, all.

I need to tell you all that I’m taking a half-day sick today. Why?

I sprained my wrist badly this weekend.

How?

you might think dancing, biking, running, or rollerblading, all hobbies I have taken part in. Oh no. That would not be embarrassing. No, I was walking. Apparently there was an icy patch.

I hit my knees, then my hand…then my face. So I have a big unattractive scrape right on my chin. :smack:

I am going to the doctor’s this afternoon. I’ll keep ypu posted. I’d write more but typing hurts.
