Ow, My Hangover, Or How We Became Catholic: An MMP

Poor Mika!
Lisslar–but I never cough til I puke, so I’m good. I hate sinus anything so I’ll trade. <faces north and tries to send sinus trouble to Canuckland>

I didn’t go do my homework–I read a trainwreck in the Pit. I’ll go do the homework on Wednesday. Too tired today.

Good luck with Gallbaldder surgery-who is going under the knife? I forget. (sorry)

Prego, the PastaKids, and the Orphink Hercules are all temps. Thank Og.

Ragnarok is comin’ if Freya doesn’t stop being the 2nd coming of the Poop Fairy…

Still no phone person…grrrrrrrr… hurry up already. It’s not like I have anything pressing to do, but still… who wants to sit around waitin’ for a phone repair type person!

I have a beef roast with carrots and N.O.T. in the crock pot simmerin’ away. Ima make some lima beans and cornbread muffins to go along with it. A nice nummy supper on a cool day. It’s cool here! Only about 55 degrees. In April. That’s just disgustin’! Oh, well, we’ll have upper 70s to low 80s by midweek. That’ll start to make up for temps in the 50s four four days in a row.

Tomorrow I am hosting a birthday dinner for a friend. Not too big, just eight people. I’m thinkin’ grilled chicken, N.O.T. salad, peas, steamed squash, rolls and pound cake with ice cream, strawberries and whipped cream. Nuttin’ hard about any of that.

Speaking of ice cream, Blue Bell has a new flavor called strawberry shortcake. It’s vanilla ice cream with bits of strawberry and angel food cake. It’s goooooood!

Bobbio, I think the PastaKids are the wrong color, anyway. Freya’s cats are golden, or fiery, I think. Is Freya a rescue, and that’s why she’s not housebroken yet?

You know what’s worse than a paper cut? A cardboard cut. Ouchie.

rigs, that is indeed, quite a trainwreck going on in the pit right now. It has actually made me stop and think quite a bit, which is never a bad thing.

Good luck to all the job seekers!

I am sooo looking forward to temps in the low 80s in NOLA this weekend. I am sick and tired of freezing in this stupid mixed-up spring. Right now it’s a whopping 35° here. That is just plain No Fun. I should go take the dogs for a short walk to exercise my knee, but after doing that yesterday afternoon, I discovered that my new knee really does not like cold weather. It got stiff and sore about three times as fast as it should have. Presumably it will get better as time passes, but I’m looking forward to a week of consistently warm and nicely humid. Maybe Papa Tig’s sinuses will clear out, too.

I should be working. Can someone please tell me to finish this stupid transcript? The witness is Chinese, whose English is fluent but whose grammar is interesting at best. Sentences like “But I know that company to do some job” are good ones; it goes rapidly downhill from there. Why me? :smack:

Freya is the future draft pick we traded Maddy for… She’s supposedly housebroken, but a 14 week old dog is the equivalent of a 3 y. o., and none of the parties involved have figured out the respective signs. In the meantime, she smells the spots where Maddy would unload, and does the same thing. I shampooed 3 carpets yesterday, and she wasn’t there 24 hours yet…

Which thread is the trainwreck in question? I lose count of the TWs over there, so picking the right one is a crapshoot.

Oopsie, make that a whopping 45°, not 35. Which is still too cold. :smack:

I’d like to know which is the trainwreck, too. It would be a good distraction from Mr. Incomprehensible Chinese Witness.

Did I mention last week that I bought deep fried flavoured ice cream? It’s cinnamon caramel with little bits of sugared tostada or something. It’s good.

I was roundly made fun of by husband #1 when I brought it home.
Ooh, Mika, that sucks. Ouch.
Time to do fun chores!

I think it’s called something like “don’t be proud about being a bitch.” It stemmed from a thread in IMHO when someone posted that she was having an affair and it made her feel the happiest she’s ever been. It’s quite an interesting read, but both the original thread and the Pit thread are reeeeeeeeeeally looooong. I’ve been keeping track of both (the OT is locked now) but not responding - plenty of people are giving the poster a piece of their mind as it is.

I figured that was the train wreck du jour. I sometimes wish that a little icon of two engines crashin’ could be put by pit train wrecks. Wouldn’t that be just keeeeyooooote!

Still no phone repair type person… grrrrrr… and I keep havin’ to go find my cell phone where I left it last. Like right now… it’s in the bathroom. GRRRRRRR… Since cell phone is listed as one of my contact numbers I’m hopin’ anyone who might be tryin’ to contact me about a job would use it if they can’t get the landline. The frustratin’ part is my landline is dead. However, if one calls it, it just rings and rings and rings and rings… GRRRRRRRR… where’s the stoopit phone fixer person!

In other news, my crockpot pot roast looks and smells nummy. At least I got that to look forward to.

Welcome to the Church, LiLi! You bounded in with enthusiasm, that’s for sure! I’m currently awaiting our lives to settle down a bit, at which time my dear husband plans to begin his RCIA classes. This makes me very happy and I often pray for Calm in the Cherry Household.

I am so annoyed by the weather. I’m sick of being cold! I want my shorts and sandals back. Waah.

I too, am reading the train wreck in question. I probably won’t respond, there are more than enough responses, most of which I agree with.

The weather is rather cool and sucky here today. There was a downpour about an hour ago that included hail.

Other than putting the pork in the crockpot for pulled pork, I haven’t done anything productive. I should…

It is well and truly a Monday. It started out with me getting stuck, yet again, behind the idiot in the truck who’s afraid to drive the speed limit. Luckily, I was able to pass him after a couple of miles, but he still pissed me off. After all, it was clear and dry and no other traffic on the road. And before anyone asks, I know it’s the same guy because of the color of the truck and the light rack on the roof - I assume he’s some sort of county worker who needs flashy lights to warn people not to hit him. Or something. But he’s an idiot!!!

Congrats, LiLi! I’m a very lapsed Catholic for a number of reasons I won’t go into here. But I hope it’ll be everything you want it to be.

Gallbladder surgery, at least laparoscopically, is a piece of cake. I had mine out on a Thursday, and I could have gone back to work the next Monday. However, being one to never pass up a chance to use sick leave, I took a whole week. I have 4 teeny scars, 2 of which I don’t know if I could find. Good luck!

Like **MamaTigs ** said, it’s way too chilly here. I am not pleased. But what ya gonna do? I am glad we won’t be hauling the boat out till May - it should be warm enough to paint the hull by then. In theory…

I’ve got a beef roast defrosting in the microwave. It’ll go into the oven with a slopping of beef broth over it to roast till it’s falling apart. Veggies will accompany it. Wish I’d remembered to pull it out of the freezer this morning.

That’s all for now. I need to toss a load into the washer, and I think I’ll play with ceramics for a while. But I still want bunny ears. <sigh>

Well, I was a good girl and took the dogs for a walk after all. Isaac still has a tendency to pull on the leash, which is Not Good on my brand-new knee, but he hates his Gentle Leader head harness enough that today I didn’t even have to put it on him briefly, just make him sit down and hold it out to him and ask him if he wanted me to put it on him or if he was going to stop pulling. It only took about three times in the first block, and then he took the rest of the 20-minute walk without pulling at all. Yay! He’s not dumb, just exceedingly stubborn. I picked the right time to go out, too – the sun came out for about 25 minutes, and I managed to get back home about 3 minutes before it clouded over again.

But it’s still chilly, and my knee still doesn’t like the cold. Oh well, it finally loosened up a bit in spite of it being cold. And now back to Mr. Chinese Witness. Hopefully I can get him finished up in the next half hour. Either that or I’ll be bald from tearing my hair out.

Oh, Ellen, that’ll be fun. I’m rooting for slightly warmer weather, too. Not shorts weather, just coat and no gloves.

We’re off to dinner for my FIL’s birthday tonight, and I need to figure out a present. I should get a card that says, “Congratulations on being Very Old”. He’d love that.

Okay, guys- I need to think of a sort of menu for this week, bearing in mind that everything needs to be easily reheatable, and I’m too tired to plan right now. So help. I have:

Salad stuff (pre-washed)
Thousands of pounds of corn chips
Eggs
Sliced ham, pulled ham
Ground beef
Bacon
Roasted peppers
Random veggies
Lots of cheddar
Lots of pita

Come with me back to the 80s and get yourself some leg warmers!

I’m only half kidding. My husband had spinal surgery and he now has a fair bit of metal in his neck. Like you, he feels it when it’s cold, so he’s taken to wearing turtlenecks, and he says it makes a world of difference.

Neck - Knee - they share 3 letters - so it should work, right?

Leg warmers? Well, yes, around the house they’d be good, but out in public? There is a limit to how much embarrassment I’m willing to put myself through. :dubious: Actually, I do have a knitting pattern for these great '80s leg warmers – I’ve got knitting patterns going back to the '70s, some of which are painfully dated thus hilarious to look at – but I’m just not sure I could bring myself to seriously inflict that dinosaurish style upon myself again. Ah, the things we do for beauty. Or at least so we won’t be openly mocked by total strangers…

I read a little bit of that trainwreck last night. I can’t quite remember why I stopped; too much cleaning time warps the mind.

I’m thinking about getting some N.O.T.s at the store and making some rotisserie baked fries tonight. I need something to spice up the leftovers, and I’ve been craving N.O.T.s in a fake-bake fried form.

I once sprained my wrist putting on pantyhose. Which one of us is dumber?

Looks like you’ve got the makings for nachos and a chef’s salad.
