Ow. Ow. OW!!

I have developed a rash.

Eww, you say. Yeah, I see you backing away, nose turned up in disdain, like you stepped in something gooey.

Hey, look. I didn’t plan this! It just happened. Sit down, lemme 'splain. No, there is no time. Let me sum up.

Last week my bottle of Axe deodorant ran out, so I started using the new bottle. New “flavor” - “Phoenix.”

A few days later I noticed I was itching a lot in my armpits. Ow, ow, ow. This happened before when I was using Irish Spring soap, and since I had also just begun using a new soap, I discontinued it and made a quick stop for a different kind.

Few days after that, though, it was getting worse, and that’s when I figured it had to be the Axe.

The Axe, I tell you. Gives you sharp pain.

I deduced it was the Axe because other areas of the body were unscathed, except for across the tummy (I usually give one swoop with whatever deodorant) and a little at the base of the neck. Them’s deodorant areas.

Today, the rash was worse. It’s all over the armpits and a little on the chest. I have been holding my arms out all day to make it easier. When I got home, I put on some calamine lotion, then some aloe, then some Vaseline Intensive Care.

I caught my mom in IMs (!) and she said to use the calamine lotion liberally. Also advised me to get baby powder and chloratrimetron.

Ow, ow, ow. Bad place to get all rashomon. Arm hits chest, rubs 'gainst it like sandpaper on a two-by-four.

Took four ibuprofren for the pain. Did I mention this hurts a lot? Admittedly, I haven’t felt real pain in life, such as giving birth or passing a kidney stone. But damn, compared with everything else I’ve had up to now, this is near the top. Ow!!

Ow.

You caught your mom in IMs?!? Man, that’s like unreal, dude… mine wouldn’t really know how, and has only played around with my isster’s MSN extremely rarely.

Seriously though… I definitely hope you feel better soon.

Yup, the whole family’s on there. She’s the toughest to get a hold of, though.

If I were a dog, I would have been put down by now! I’m such a baby!

“isster’s” ?!?

What the heck is THAT?

Of course, I meant “sister’s” …

:smack:

I IM my mom and pretend to be the ghost of her previous computer come back to haunt her.

I don’t know if this would work for you, but if the calamine doesn’t work, there is a medication, over-the-counter, that gets rid of excema. You may ask a pharmacist about that if nothing else works.

Good luck!

dantheman, I’ve had the same problems with Axe/Lynx deodorants. I was using them freely for a few months without any problems but then I started developing this monkey of a rash in my armpits and i couldn’t stop scratching up till the point where it hurt like hell just to lift my arm.

I’ve now resorted to using some Nivea deo without alcohol. It doesn’t smell as nice as the Axe one’s though. :frowning:

I find that taking Benadryl helps when I’m having an allergic reaction to whatever. If you can take an oatmeal bath, that sometimes helps with the problem, too. Put about half a cup of oatmeal in a bandana or handkerchief, tie it securely, and let the bathwater run through it. Use this cloth to soap up with, too. Some people put the oatmeal right in the tub, but I find that too yucky.

My sympathies, I just developed a new allergy lately and I KNOW what you’re going through.

I agree with Lynn Bodoni, benadryl and oatmeal baths are both excellent ideas. Another way to take an oatmeal bath is to put the oatmeal in a knee-high stocking and tie a knot at the top so the oatmeal doesn’t get out. Or you can just buy Aveeno (it’s a pre-made oatmeal bath). I got chicken pox as an adult an oatmeal baths saved my life!

Feel better:)

I agree with everyone. And of course, if all else fails, see a physcian.

To calm the itch, try Gold Bond medicated powder. It has been described as “10,000 magical elves massaging your scrotum” (not by me!), and I will attest to its wonderfulness for heat-rash.

See, this is why I posted this here. I get to see all these funky home remedies.

green_bladder, that’s it exactly! I’ve been using Axe for a long while now; it’s just this “flavor” that’s been the culprit. Must be something in it that’s just not copasetic.

But that Nivea is for shaving, isn’t it? Or am I confusing it with something else?

It feels a lot better today - I guess slathering on Caladryl helped. I’ll see how things look after I take a shower. When I get a chance, I’ll head to the drugstore and load up on

baby powder
Chloratrimeton
Gold Bond medicated powder
Benedryl
Aveeno

At least it’s not an allergy to something I have to use, like air, water, or the computer.

No, no… it’s a mild, alcohol-free deodorant so as to aggravate any itching.

…so as to not aggravate… :smack:

Maybe a sacrifice to The Thing (aka The Albino Cricket) would also be in order?

Hope you feel better soon.

Yes, a maiden sacrifice! Who’s in?? Anyone?

It better not be contagious.

Unclean! Unclean!

I completely sympathize with what you are going through, ** dantheman**. In the last couple years I seem to have developed an allergy to all commercial deodorant/antipersperants. :frowning: I still haven’t found one that won’t make me break out, even the ones that claim to be hypo-allergenic.

As for the caladryl, throw that sh** away and go for the hydrocortisone.

Just checking; you’re not wearing any sort of deodorant over the rash, are you? And you are using a mild, non-deodorant soap, such as Ivory, right? 'Cuz the rash needs to heal up before you try anything else.

:o No, I didn’t forgo deodorants, even with the rash. Guess I’m just prolonging this, huh? Didn’t even think of it. I’m still using soap, too; it’s Coast. The eye-opener. Only because it had never caused problems before.

I just came back from a grueling walk with the dog, whose eyes were crossed. After some food, I’ll have to go to the drug store.

Ditto the Hydracortisone cream. I had a reaction to 1 flavor of Secret deordorant (the new never-leave-a-white-streak kind). It’ll take a couple of days for this to go away. But I’d get some gentle soap at the drug store to use until the rash stops. It’ll take longer to heal if the skin keeps being irritated by harsh chemicals. Hope the itching stops soon!
