Ozark Finale

I made it through all 4 seasons, with all its crazy twists and turns, and while I had a few questions about the ending, which my wife was easily able to answer, I still found it satisfying.

Did anyone else watch the entire series from start to finish, and if so, what did YOU think of the ending?

It was good, not great. Good is good enough when a lot of TV shows disappoint you.

I was disappointed at the time because I had hoped for something else. In retrospect however, it had to end just how it did.

I thought the ending was satisfying and I liked it. RickJay hit the nail on the head: a good ending to a good series is a rare enough thing.

Overall, I didn’t think Ozark was as good as Breaking Bad, but that applies to 99.9% of TV shows.

Talking to other people who have seen it, the consensus was that the ending was okay, not spectacular, but okay. I think they wanted it to end with a spectacle, like blowing up of the Missouri Belle. The ending was unspectacular. It was surprising though.

The dumbest part was the van accident that apparently had nothing to do with anything.

That they all walked away from… what was the point of that?

It was a sign from God that they were all going to get out of the situation okay.

As good an explanation as any!

Really out there alternative theory about the van accident that I don’t really believe but I’ll throw out there anyway:

Wendy is dying in the van accident and the rest of the show is her Owl Creek Bridge fantasy.

  1. The kids come home safe, sound, and happy.
  2. Senator Findley(?) or whoever is told off and the voting machine scheme is undone.
  3. Ruth is dealt with and can no longer interfere with the Byrde family.
  4. The Byrdes’ escape to the foundation safe life comes off without a hitch.
  5. But at the cost of killing a man in cold blood, something the rest of the family seems fine with, as if they’ve come around to Wendy’s cold-blooded way of looking at things.

Not something I really believe is intended, but I find it a faintly interesting thought. About the only thing that makes me give it any credence at all is how the camera focus moves into the car and on Wendy seemingly unconscious after the accident, but then she suddenly wakes up and everything is fine, almost eerily fine, after that.

I lost interest early in S1, when it seemed that nothing funny was about to happen, so if the finale is anything other than the family stealing the Queen Mary, I’m not going to bother coming back to it.
