I binge watched season 2 of Ozark on Netflix over the weekend. I thought it was good, told a full story, and has enough material left for another season.
Mrs. Snell is such an evil bitch it is almost comical, and Mr. Snell admits to being scared to death of her and what she might do next. They have some flashbacks to when she was young to show why anyone might put up with her.
There is a car shootout with the Snells that I will come back to.
Really enjoyed it - the main characters are all really well-drawn and the actors deliver the goods. Maybe some of the villains are a bit cartoonish in their evilness, and there seems to be no one in the Ozarks who is not a failed or corrupted human being.
I imagine it will be hard work for the local tourism board to leverage this show into more visitors. ‘Come to beautiful Lake Ozark, and we might even let you leave with most of your fingers.’
I enjoyed it. But I’m pretty sure they jumped the shark in like the last five minutes of the last episode…
It’s looking like S3 is going to be a parody of House of Cards.
Another gripe: Marty threatens to send the daughter off to boarding school in Paris.
Really? That’s an option? He should have done that from day one!!
I thought the Buddy storyline was the most fun, and the final payoff with Jonah meeting Buddy’s friends was just great.
I am enjoying the story more this season than last, but it is becoming very involved to keep track of who-knows-what and who-is-crossing-whom. Rachel, in particular, I just can’t follow what she knows or what her motivations are.
I know there were a lot of fan fun in seeing how Walter White had a previous family with 4-5 boys, but I’d be amused to see the life transition from Michael Bluth to Marty Byrde. That would be a hell of a ride!
I enjoyed both seasons. I hope they don’t get too bogged down with the angst-y daughter and her angst-y boyfriend. The son is much more interesting. In the last episode they showed the KC mob blowing somebody’s house up. Was that “The Lake House?”
So Mr. Snell was going to stab Mrs. Snell with a puny knife before Mrs. Snell poisoned him? I wouldn’t think she would be easy to stab.
Back to the Snells being shot at on the highway by the Mexican cartel. The Snell’s car stopped, and was being shot at by about 5 gunman with machine guns who were in close range. It was a bit like the final shootout in Bonnie and Clyde. All the window glass was broken and the car was riddled with bullets.
It seemed the only injury from this was Mr. Snell had a chest wound? It looked like everyone would be dead ten times over. Was the car bulletproof, if so why did bullets go through the glass?
It just seemed so unlikely. Only in a superhero movie can you jump off a tall building and land on your feet without an injury.
It could’ve just been a message; I would think that if the 2nd Largest Mexican Cartel was truly serious about making someone dead, then that person or persons would be well and truly dead.
What we saw was just a noisy pop-off to scare the Snells into behaving.
What scared me about Cade Langmore is that I’ve known people not much better; scary stupid, yet with a low, vicious cunning for all that, and apt to fly into violence with little or no provocation; they’d rather lie than tell the truth to save their life, and would rather steal than work for anything
I thought it kind of sloppy to kill Cade out in the open and leave his body to be found. It made for better drama, sure, but these are people who’ve been shown to make their victims disappear, and tie off loose ends.
Also wondered what was the point of torturing Ruth instead of just eliminating her. They’ve (again) been shown to leave no possible loose ends. They were ready to kill Marty in episode 1 just on the* suspicion* that he might be involved. And he was crucial to their enterprise. Why not Ruth?
I was thinking it was because Marty witnessed for her. And now they were just testing her loyalty.
Remember when Evil Lawyer lady came out, she said: “She’s a tough girl”. You could almost detect a hint of admiration from the part of Lawyer lady. That’s actually one of my favorite scenes of her.
I liked this season but not nearly as much as I enjoyed season 1.
Yes, the car shootout was very unrealistic. All those bullets and only one chest wound? C’mon man…
The thing that’s got me anxious about season 3 is Ruth. Last we saw, she was at the morgue saying goodbye to her Daddy. She has no idea that the Byrde’s have decided to stay in Ozark and she won’t be taking over the business.
So next season, Ruth will find out that Mrs. Byrde is responsible for her Father’s death, and that Marty is still running things. She’s going to pull a double cross…or at least attempt one…
In episode 6, when Jonah burns the deer head that the Snells gave him, whose (human) head is that stuffed inside the taxidermied deer? I’ve searched the interwebs high and low and can’t find an answer.
I think Jason Bateman was definitely better this season on the show. He came across as more of a cold hearted SOB. Entertaining as it was the show did start to fall into one plot device over and over again: getting over on someone to get a concession. I hope the writers/showrunners find more creative ways of getting the Byrds out of conundrums season 3. One added Kudo: after her horrible turn as Jessica Jones mother on the Netflix series, Janet McTeer was terrifying as a cartel bought and paid for lawyer.
