The more I think about it, the more that I think it was intended to be an over-the-top scare message from the cartel, rather than a straight hit. By letting the Snells get away, there is no obvious murder and crime scene that would bring a huge investigation that would unravel the whole Ozark scheme. It was an overdone show of force to let the Snells know that they were outgunned, outmanned, and out plotted. The stray gunshot wound was probably accidental.
Just finished the season last night. It’s not the kind of show I can binge, or even watch one per night. I need a break between episodes
Anyhow, I think it’s a truly great show, though not perfect. Marty and Wendy should be dead several times over by now; the constant “How are they going to get out of this one?” gets a little old. However, it looks like we’ll see a shift in the power dynamic in the next season. Wendy, at least, seems to be starting to embrace her criminality. When we realize she coldly set up Cade to be killed, it’s a chilling moment.
I was a little disappointed in Agent Petty’s demise. I figured his hubris would get him eventually, but not in such a mundane fashion. I imagine the Byrdes will be suspects when his body is discovered.
I’ve lost track of how many people would still be alive if Del had simply killed Marty back in episode 1. That’s part of the point, of course; is Marty’s life worth all of these others? That said, there’s no way Darlene Snell is alive at the end of season 3.
