One might think so, since I’ve contributed dozens of staff reports in the past. This is the only recent one, though. Apparently there are standards one has to meet to maintain titles, but I’m not that worried about it.
But without that protection you are a DEMONESS! 
I remember someone else saying that they were required to write another one within a certain amount of time or they would lose their title. If it’s been that long for you, that might have been what happened. I’m sure you could hit up Tuba and/or xash and get it changed back now that you’ve written one again.
BTW, it was an awesome article. I think you did a good job coming off fairly impartial, which is hard to do on this subject, (until the end of course)
The SDSAB titles are held by those who currently serve on the Straight Dope Science and Advisory Board. Retirees are Members.
Which is not to say we’re ungrateful – this report was a totally unexpected gift and thank you very much – but it was a bolt out of the blue. First one in over 5 years – maybe longer than that.

Thanks for the compliments on my recent article. I’m happy to contribute when a topic comes by that takes my interest, but I’m not concerned at all about having a title next to my name here.
