Does any one plan on watching the new series “Painkiller Jane” that premieres tonight on the SCI-FI channel, 9 PM Central time?
I thought I would give it a try! Who is with me?

My husband and I are very curious about this show. I read a review that is off-putting, but I’ll give it a try anyway.
Not anytime soon, having read that review, heh.
I gave it a try, and was not too impressed. But I thought the same thing about the early episodes of The Dresden Files, and was glad to see my loyalty rewarded.
It wasn’t particularly good, but not horrendously bad! I may watch it again next week!
…I hate to say this… but her double chin REALLY bothers me for some reason. I think I’m giving up after 15 minutes
They seriously underplayed Kristanna Lokken’s babeliciousness in the first ep. If they continue throughout and the writing gets no better, I predict a swift end for the series.
I thought it was OK, but not “gotta watch it” stuff. Hubby liked it a bit better, probably because of the good-lookin’ women (especially the Bettie Page lookalike who played the neuro gal). We’ll try a few more episodes. If it stays in this time slot, it will be easy to record, since it comes on right after the SG-1/Atlantis block.
like other posters, I thought it was just Ok. Nothing to write home about, but something that I’ll Tivo for later when there’s nothing on. Sci-Fi needs something to fill the void when StarGate:SG-1 goes off the air…and I’m not sure BSG is going to be around much longer unless they get back to better story telling.
BSG is going to be around for at least another 22 episodes plus a 2 hour movie. It won’t be back until Jan 08 at the earliest. It is in no danger of being cancelled anytime soon.
Just because they have agreed to purchse the episodes doesn’t mean they’ll ever see air.
Witness: Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, which received a full-season purchase from NBC, but was pulled from the air mid season.
Oh, wait, this is SciFi channel, home of movies like “Man-Thing” of course it will see air. Even if it doesn’t deserve it.
eh…I don’t consider being picked up for one more season that longed lived. I’ve all but stopped watching it, and from what I read in the threads, a lot of other people aren’t happy with the way it was going there for a while. Couple that with such a long hiatus, and it’s understandable that I don’t have a lot of faith in it’s longevity.
A quick check of imdb makes me think that Stargate:SG-1 may be the longest running science fiction series? I see that the longest Star Trek is only 7 seasons. We’re wrapping up 10…is there another one I’m forgetting?
Hmmm…forgot about Dr. Who that probably counts.
The style appealed to me (I’m a sucker for snippets of cynical internal monologue, I suppose). The writing was relatively flat, though, and the dialogue was nothing to write home about. They seemed to be struggling with introducing too many characters and concepts at a time.
There were moments I liked, though–particularly the bit with the shadows in her first neuro encounter. It may have said more about Jane’s character in a few seconds than the rest of the show put together.
I set TiVo to record it–it doesn’t conflict with anything else I’m recording, so why not? I’ll put it on when there’s nothing else I feel like watching and see how it goes. Hopefully, the writing will pick up. If not, it’s easy enough to cancel the recordings.
I watched a trailer for Painkiller Jane earlier today and all the images were dim and shadowy. I’m seriously concerned that the cinematography on this series is so bad that it will override any other qualities it might have.
See, that’s when I started to check out. I expected her to have some really not all that clever solution. I would have been hooked if she had just shot all three in the leg.
I was a little surprised they tossed out the plot of the movie entirely. The only thing they kept was her nigh-invulnerable status.
So far, I’m not all that interested in any of the characters, but I’ll probably give it another couple episodes to establish itself before I bail completely.
While the arbitrary violence approach to the conundrum would have been entertaining (especially since her new boss is something of a jerk), I’m not sure it would have helped. It might have disrupted the illusion, but it certainly wouldn’t have stopped the neuro–or one of the others, for that matter–from shooting her. I think the clever solution works better. It still paints her as aggressive, but it also suggests that she’s highly perceptive and decisive.
Of course, shooting her in that scene wouldn’t have stopped her, but it would have forced an early reveal of her abilities. That, in turn, would have ruined what little drama the rest of the episode managed to muster.
I couldn’t get past the technobabble. (I guess it’s like a Dr. watching a medical drama, or a CSI waching CSI) I may watch it again if I wander past it, but it’s not something I’ll go looking for.
I came in part way through and thought ‘heh, they sure stole a lot from Max Headroom’.
