Pancakes, Waffles, or French Toast?

Yeah, they add the word “complete” to the packaging. It’s got powdered egg and stuff all in there. I ain’t calling it gormet, just simple.

Thx!

Am I the only one who rankes waffles third among the three? I prefer pancakes, with french toast a close second, but I never liked the texture of waffles.

Actually, the real answer is, “It doesn’t really matter, as I’m not really allowed to eat any of these”; I haven’t had pancakes in well over a year, because of my blood sugar, and as for where they place on the “how about just once in a while” list:
Spaghetti? :slightly_smiling_face:
Pizza? :slightly_smiling_face:
Pancakes: :rage:

French Toast. Close second is Waffles, if someone else is making them. Pancakes a distant third.

Pancakes, I have them so rarely now but they remind of special breakfasts when I was younger. Beats the hell out of cereal

I make french toast so rich, complex, and indescribably delicious, that we only have it once a year on Christmas morning. We start by baking our own challah or brioche, several days in advance…

Waffles are best, if made at home, from scratch. Waffles do not, cannot be made from a mix in a bag or box. I’ve never had a frozen premade waffle so I can’t say anything about those. Waffles are a rare treat, restaraunt waffles are pancake flavored trash food.

Pancakes generally are my first choice. Made from scratch or a mix both are good.

I like french toast, but that’s dinner when all you have in the house is a loaf of bread, some eggs and milk. And either it’s just a little to close to the wrong side of payday or you’re to tired/lazy to go to the store at that time.

Ideally? French toast made in a waffle iron.

But failing that, regular waffles.

Wait! French toast in a waffle iron? Whuuuuuh?:exploding_head:

Details please, I’ve never heard of such a thing

Nah gotta be a whoosh, that would be seriously hard to clean

You can get all three frozen, and I do. But my favorite is waffles, because you can fill the little holes with so many fun treats. Syrup, honey, butter, honey-butter, cheddar cheese, peanut butter… mmmmm…

Bacon, eggs, and spam

second choice french toast, at least its got eggs in it

French toast always seems so fancy. I rarely get to eat them. Or any of the choices.
So I choose French toast.

French toast is OK, but I don’t think I’ve had it in 20 years or more They’re second-best, and more trouble than they’re worth. Waffles. . . why? They’re often hard and 3-dimensional, so you get the Captain Crunch mouth. Also, I’ve never had a HOT waffle. Best-case, they’re warm for a couple bites, then they’re a drippy, room-temperature, syrup-transfer device. . . with unmelted butter along for the ride.

Pancakes. They’re soft, soak up the butter and syrup wonderfully, and they’re hot almost to the end. Hell, they’re called HOT cakes. Pancakes all the way. I have to eat gluten-free because I’m celiac, but not long ago I found out they make half-decent gluten-free pancake mix, so I had some fun with that for awhile. So hard to get that mouthfeel when you eat gluten-free!

Crap, I’m dieting and now I’m thinking about the pancake mix in the kitchen.

I think the correct anser is crumpets.

What’s there to explain? You make your egg dip according to your preferred recipe, you dip the bread in it, and then instead of putting it on a skillet, you put it in a waffle iron. No harder to clean than regular waffles, if you have a nonstick iron and spray it.

Obviously this does depend on the bread slices not being too thick.

Yeah, regardless of how you feel about traditional breakfast waffles, a waffle maker is a wonderful thing. Potato cakes, cookies, brownies, grilled cheese…the possibilities are endless.

I voted for French Toast, but every once in a while, I have a hankerin’ for a waffle.

I have a recipe for a french toast casserole that’s terrific - especially because the milk and egg soak into the bread overnight, so it’s really custardy after you bake it. Dammit, now I want some!!

The only one of those three I’m even mildly a fan of is waffles, and I don’t have a waffle iron. My kids and wife both love pancakes and French toast, so I’ll make that somewhat regularly for them, but I’ll eat something else for breakfast. (Oh, I do like crepes/palancsinta/nalesniki/blintzes, so that is a type of pancake I do enjoy.)

I voted for French Toast, because that’s the easiest to make, which I normally make using brioche bread. Overnight French Toast takes it to another level. Went to a bed and breakfast which had peach and cream cheese French Toast. Wow!

If I’m going to a diner-like restaurant, then pancakes over waffles. I would never get French Toast at a restaurant. If it’s a bit fancier, I’m getting Eggs Benedict. Or waffles

Ah, non stick waffle iron, I’ve heard of such things. I inherited mine from Grandma, (it’s older than I am) so it’s nonstick in much the same way cast iron is made to be nonstick, by having a patina from decades of use. I haven’t really used sprays or even looked at them in a long time, not since I discovered that the most common ones used cornstarch as part of their formulation and that left a very sticky and difficult to clean film on things(I’m sure this has all changed over the years) I’d have to buy a whole nother iron to try that with.
