This is ridiculous. It’s like these people are determined to act out every paranoid fantasy anyone has ever had toward the government. A secret network of prisons ? One where the inmates have no rights ? Has the government been taken over by Cobra Commander ? The Cigarette Smoking Man ?
Once again, America proves just how vile and disgusting a country it is. We beat our chest about how moral we are, then we do something like this.

It may be old, but it’s no less relevant. And I’d like a cite as to the last major publication that was as long and went into as much detail as this one did. There may have been a few, but not many.
This is particularly important given that the McCain Amendment promises to hold the future actions of POTUS to higher scrutiny and accountability (which is W, naturally, will apply his first veto ever to its demise). And the more press and more exposure this gets, the more people will get outraged by something that may have been flying under their radar for too long. Also, maybe more heroic members of our armed services will speak out against the abuses, since the government will be hard pressed to smear all of them.
That’s why I posted it. I’d heard claims before, but this was the first time I saw an actual news story. Besides, I saw it on another board first, and they hadn’t heard of it; obviously, it’s not universally known.

Just a respectful request that such a generalization as this not stand unchallenged. A country’s worth is not entirely identical to the actions of its government. A worthwhile country (or at least a non-vile and non-disgusting one) does not have to be perfect to still remain worthwhile. And one of the things that gives this country worth is that there is at least the potential for angry citizens such as yourself to force a change.
It is frustrating to most of our better natures, and I may understand how you feel (am I being too nice for the Pit?). Let’s give this story a chance to be aired in public and see what happens. I believe it is getting some play, as I was speeding past a TV in the lobby of my company and I believe I saw something on CNN about it.

You’ve got to wonder just who it is they’re keeping in these black prisons after yesterday’s revelation that Omar al-Faruq, al Qaeda’s senior operative in Southeast Asia, escaped from the regular old high security hoosegow at Bagram Air Base.
Of course, a cynical person might also wonder at the coincidence of al-Faruq’s escape messing up a torture trial, but that road just leads to depressing speculations.

As to why I’d think they are terrorists, from the article in the OP:
Of course there could be non-Al Qaeda prisoners and we’d never know. But I’m talking about the people referred to in the article. Doesn’t the world deserve to be protected from these maniacs even if it means that we have to rescind all of their rights? Aren’t there always a few exceptions to the rule?
