 I think I’m gonna be sick…
I would be too, but after reading about the three different cases of early teens being chained, locked in rooms for years, kennelled, and starved nearly to death (all within the last 7 days), I’m all puked out.
At least this baby (who is thankfully not seriously injured) might have a chance to avoid being shaken to death or otherwise maltreated by his own parents.
And to those who wonder about the “no questions asked baby drop-off,” do you really think that people as ignorant and savage as these are even aware that the policy exists? They’re more likely to believe that Elvis is king of the Martians.
Don’t be silly. That’s Jim Morrison.
I hope so, but there also might be a chance that the reluctant parent turns up murdered.
Where’s the boss of the human race?
I think I want to quit.
I thought he was the Lizard King.
Or maybe Martians are just lizard people. In that case I guess we areth right.
Damnit!
areth = are both
Is that where he went?
Well, it in mentioned a lot whenever this sort of thing happens. Besides, how difficult would it be to anonymously check into your options for the 9 months that you’re pregnant and know you won’t be keeping it?
Eggsalad:D I opened this thread purely to find a bathwater comment.
It’s interesting that the police say the interview with the mother “puts a whole new light on this story”. I wonder if that means that the man in the car threw the baby out?
Latest report says the mother has either been found or come forward. Police rep says her story sheds “a whole new light” on the subject.
My WAG theories: Maybe it wasn’t the parents that threw this baby out of the car (may have been a stolen baby?) or maybe it was done without the mama’s consent (the witness said the two adults in the car appeared to be arguing.)
No matter what, it’s still awfully sad for someone to start life out that way.
UPDATE…there was NO baby thrown out a moving car!!!
I just heard a press conference. It turns out the woman who took the baby to the sheriff, claiming she had seen it thrown out a car window, is actually the mother. She didn’t want the baby and made up the story to look like a Good Samaritan.
So, baby was not chucked from a moving car, and at least his mother knows she’s too crazy to take care of it.
Phew.
Yeah, that sounds about right. The news wasn’t showing any kind of contusions or damage from being “thrown”.
My guess is she wanted to give it up, but didn’t want to admit being the mom and still be able to take it to a safe haven place - but the “good samaratain” angle caused her MORE problems.
More from the press conference. The “Good Samaritan” also has a 10 year old son, and he has been removed from her custody.
What is going on in this woman’s life that she needed to lie? She could have dropped the baby off anonymously and no harm done.
We have been present at the beginnings of an Urban Legend.
I am awed.
Let’s see, “Woman sues couple who threw baby out of car window, claiming the baby damaged her lawn when it landed.”
Or, “Baby survives miraculous fall off overpass after being thrown out a car window.”
Or, “Throwing babies out of car windows causes cancer!”
The OP’s article said “The baby was taken to Broward General Medical Center, which upgraded his condition from critical to serious Thursday night.” Any idea on why the baby was in such poor condition despite not being thrown from a car?
IANAD, but I think an abandoned newborn would normally be listed as critical so he gets round-the-clock care until they ascertain what shape he’s in.
On the other hand, Qadgop will probably wander in here and show me up for the wild-ass-guessing fool that I am.
