Well, I know this isn’t a travel forum, but my parents are coming soon and they told me to make dinner reservations for any restaurant I want that costs around $20-$25 per person. I know there are a lot of Dopers who have a good knowledge of Paris, so I’m wondering if you’d like to give some suggestions.
I’m not from Paris, but I’ve been there fairly recently. The price sounds a tad low for a restaurant, but you could certainly eat well in any number of bistros for that. Really well.
If you do want a restaurant, I was taken to a place that was said to be good value - Le Clos des Gourmets in 7e Arrondissement. It’s about €35 for three courses if you avoid supplements. It’s real restaurant food (my main was various fancy things made from a pig’s head), but you don’t get a special stool for your handbag and the setting is not grand.
short of cafe-bar-type restaurants, and chinese restaurants (though one chinese restaurant I ate at served succulent food!), you’ll have no trouble finding a good restaurant… I’ve visited Paris several times, and found excellent food… can’t remember their names, but I know 3 dif restaurants in the Latin Quarter were top of my list, one of the restaurants was directly at bottom of east side of the Basilic de Sacre couer, as well as one down the hill of west side, yummmmm!
And for the best fresh-made crepes, go to the antique district between Latin Quarter and Montmartre… even the simple cart-vendors make the best! Also some delicious seafood restaurants on Montmarte blvd but definitely >$40 euros/entre. On this note, keep in mind the euro is worth more than US dollar. Trust me, I know. That’s been one of the most dismal facts of life for last 9 months…especially the last two weeks, when the dollar took another little dip.
When we were in Paris recently we had a good meal at Le Coupe Chou in the 5th. Good food, great atmosphere, though it might be a bit more than you want to spend (22E for the set menu). The best food I had was at Le Baracane in the Marais, but, again, it’s more than $25/person. It’s a crowded, cozy little place, and the cassoulet was fantastic. You’ll definitely need a reservation if you go there.
It is an old brasserie that has been taken over and restored to antique glory by a company called Brasseries FLO. Delicious traditional French food and some German/Alsatian influence.
My friends and I randomly asked some American exchange students from Georgetown their favorite restaurant and they told us to try this place. Apparently Francois Mitterand used to eat there as well.
It was sooooooooo good! About 45 euros apiece for three courses and half a bottle of wine. So good!
