So I just noticed that there hasn’t been a Parks and Recreation thread since episode 18. The fact that I just noticed that is probably indicative of how much I’ve lost touch with the show’s story arc.
I still like certain bits of the writing, performances, and character moments, but I have been bored, bored, bored with the election story line. I just don’t care what’s happening plot-wise, although Aziz Ansari, Aubrey Plaza, Rob Lowe, and Paul Rudd have been routinely cracking me up.
Anyone else have anything to say?
I’m actually liking the election story arc quite a bit, and I am interested in what’s happening. Though I had to set aside the fact that they got a campaign bus for a local city council election. Where did* that *money come from? On the other hand, I suppose if anybody would go that far over the top, it’d be Leslie Knope.
Been loving Paul Rudd and Kathryn Hahn, and I’m really enjoying how dark Rob Lowe’s character is getting.
For a sitcom to deviate from its established formula and settings for such an extended period is risky, but IMO it’s working here. I’m laughing and I feel invested in the story and characters. Win-win!
I adore this show, but it seems to be moving a little closer to “feel good” tv and away from the hilarity of, say, season 2. Still one of the best shows on TV but… different!
The Bus episode was pretty good. I’m glad the election will be over with. I think I’m voting for Bobby Newport, but I haven’t decided yet for sure.
All I have to say is that Ron Swanson is the man.
Eh, I’m a little bored with Ron’s shtick.
I was really disappointed with Ron in the Bus episode. In fact, I was really disappointed with the whole senior van subplot. I didn’t feel like it resolved well at all. I think they just didn’t know what to do with it.
I liked Andy’s FBI subplot. At first it seemed like standard slapsticky nonsense, topped by the pie impact recreation. But it was brilliant that he (A) actually correctly solved the crime, then (B) completely failed to prevent its recurrence.
I’ve been a fan since season 1. I’ve always liked Andy and for a while they were showing some growth in his character which I liked but this season they’ve regressed him to more buffonish and immature which I find disappointing. It was kind of the same with Michael Scott on Office. I liked the episodes that showed MS had some talent and competence buried under all the dopiness.
