You got it. I’m trying to dig up dirt on any, and all, of our hosts. I figure the confession of the illicit hospital is going to do well with Oredigger77. Now I just have to get dirt on our other two hosts.
(And here I thought that getting blended pies tossed onto Daphne’s blouse would be the best I could hope for!)

Ah, Justin, I do believe I see how your quirk is coloring your posts! Nicely done!

Yep. If the hosts win this game, it’ll be due to Daphne. She’s good!

We’ll see…I don’t think anyone even has a clue about mine. Though it’s gonna get harder to keep up here soon.

Hey, twicks, it is kosher for me to consider myself freelance at this, right?

Sure – you’ve been doing a great job (sic) so far, I’m not gonna tell you how (or for whom) to do it …

I can’t believe nobody’s guessed me yet. I thought at several points I was being PAINFULLY obvious, especially with the colors, and quoting Santo Rugger.

Several of mine have felt like total gimmes (“when come back, bring pie”, “dough purrs,” “Maude hat”, and the latest one), but apparently not. I figure one of them is eventually going to spark recognition in one of the hosts, and they’ll go back over my old ones and figure out two or three others, and the jig’ll be up.

But that’s the great thing about throwing around Dope memes - you’re on the Dope throwing them around is something that we do, often at the drop of a hat.

(BTW, is a mystery piano a new meme, yet?)

That’d make sense, except that mine are so tortured. It’s not like I’m writing “[Mod Hat]”: I’m linking to a picture of Maud wearing a hat. It makes no sense unless you realize that it’s a Maud hat, in which case it’s clearly the quirk. I don’t think any of mine have used the straightdopism in a straightforward manner.

See?
I figured it might help if some of us started setting up various Dope-isms for you. I’ll see if I can start throwing a few more around, too, if you’d like that.

Out of curiosity, is anyone here close to working out what my quirk is? I’m worried that I’ve been playing it too subtly to be fair.

I really have to give Left Hand of Dorkness points for creativity. Many of his posts are subtle taken when taken individually, but knowing what the quirk is, the catchphrases are nicely distributed all over. I don’t know what it will take for a Host to have a lightbulb moment, but if one does, I think the quirk will be announced immediately.

Otaku, thanks for the offer, but I think I have enough to churn out a couple more a day for the remaining days. And thanks, Eureka, for the compliment! I’m having a lot of fun with it.

Kami, I confess I just put all your posts into a Word document, and I’m really stumped. I see a lot of words borrowed pretty directly from other languages (puce, je ne sais quoi, kimono, espresso, kosher, dulcet), but I have no idea if that’s anywhere near the right track. Do you wanna give us guests a hint–maybe pointing to a post or two where you think you were the least obscure?

You’re definitely on the right track. I’m not sure how specific twick will want the guess to be, but by my own reckoning, the least obvious post I made was:

and the most obvious was

I posted the last one pretty much exclusively to help the hosts.

Should I be looking at the potluck–>potlatch connection?
Puce is from the French word for flea (learn something new every day), so I’m not getting anywhere with that, unless it’s simply that you use words borrowed from other languages. Maybe words whose English meaning is exactly the same as their meaning in other languages. Is that it?

That’s almost exactly it. The formal definition is basically “loanwords who have entered English untouched”, so I was just looking for loanwords whose spelling (if applicable) and meaning underwent minimal change in English. I thought the potluck/potlatch one was obscure because I happen to know that in spite of being a trade language Chinook Jargon varied a bit from region to region, and that there are documented speakers from the 1800s who actually used “potluck”. I’m not 100% sure whether it was a case of native speakers picking up the English adaptation or a simple sound change, since I know there was a conditioned /ch/ - /k/ change sometime between 1700-1850. Either way, I figured that if native speakers existed who said “potluck,” then it was fair game.
