Pass the salt in the MMP

Good morning,

It’s currently 58 degrees with an expected high of 85 and lots of humidity. Temps reached 95 at my house yesterday, so we exceeded the expected high.

I had another long workday yesterday. Stuff came to a head with the MPA and she found out just how unhappy I’ve been “guess I dropped the ball on that”. We’ll need to have a sit down next week to hash this out because we both need to communicate with each other in order to do our jobs. I was counting on her to do hers and got sick of coming behind her to clean up while doing my job, and now supporting another state who JUST.WILL.NOT quit emailing me. I won’t go into details, and I don’t have time to deal with it today because I have some serious deadlines.

I’m sorry about your friend, oopsie.

FCM, your upcoming there and back drives to FLAH-DUH sound exhausting. I really hope the in-laws agree to move up north because neither you nor FCD can keep up with the way things are going.

Little Zoe turns four on Saturday. How time flies! There will be a birthday party and I’m very much looking forward to seeing her and Adam (the grandson).

I should finish my coffee and head upstairs. So much to do, not enough hours in the day. I will probably end up working late and putting in some hours tomorrow, even though I’m supposed to be off. That’s okay, once the new FY starts, I plan to burn some of this time up.

Morning all. Need to do the Great September Shopping Trip sometime this morning, probably at Kroger as it’s closest and I have some coupons they sent me. Then gym time and soccer practice to fill up the day. Will be close to 90F again, but supposed to cool off next week.

FCM, hope it does work out alright for FCD’s parents. And happy Birthday to daughter. My niece turns 31 this year, hard to believe.

Taters, hope things come together at work for you.

Be cool, shady

Sari, glad you got ahold of Niece 1; sounds like she’s dealing with quite a financial mess there. And sorry about cousin, I have one in California I haven’t seen ton 25 years, no idea if he is alive or dead.

Oopsie, so sorry about your friend and his partner.

nellie, hope things work as you want for the appointment today.

OK, need to break fast and then dress more or less appropriately for shopping with the public. All y’all take care.

My morning so far should NOT have been this tiring. OK, didn’t sleep so well (still stuffy enough that airflow can be a challenge, and DH was complaining about my snoring, plus weirdly disturbing dreams that didn’t quite make it to nightmare. Mel will not be joining me tonight).

Still, I’m at nowhere near FCM levels of productivity, mostly catching up on stuff that didn’t get handled while both of us were sick for a week. Took out the garbage (all receptacles were at the top of their capacity), scooped the cat litter, started a load of laundry (I was on my last clean underwear, which can be a problem for a woman my age who’s sneezing and/or coughing a lot), and dealt with a Walmart delivery (plenty of diet soda now on hand, I’m back up to a year of reserve TP, and even got my preferred potstickers!).

I did eat an approximation of breakfast (a packet of blueberry Entemann’s mini-muffins and a single-serve yogurt isn’t that bad, is it?) and have taken on some Mt. Dew.

Finally got some clear communication with the medical contingent yesterday. I’m back on lisinopril (going off it didn’t seem to help with the symptoms PCP thought might be side effect problems), at 2.5mg, echocardiogram scheduled for 9/9 (had to work around my required quarantine).

Mrs W is sick. Chills and fever, and dizziness when she walks. Doesn’t sound like the ‘Rona, but it sure sounds like something. She’s lying down in the other room, and I’m trying to keep my distance.

I think I’m going to treat myself to a day of sloth before I have to go visit the vampires again tomorrow morning. Laundry is laundering, and of course I’ll attend to the wife if she needs anything. Aside from that I’ll be leaving a butt print on the sofa cushion.

My little guy is extra clingy today. Not as endearing as it sounds. But he’s so cute…

Ye gods, I just did not wanna get out of bed today! I kept rolling over and just … drifting back off.

Anyway, I finally became semi productive. Some trash has gone out & I started a load of laundry. In a sec, imma take a bag of recyclables from work - we’ll see if the deposit money is worth the trouble.

Too bad we can’t put Toby and Buddy together. He’s doing the “but I LOVE you!” clingies himself. Cute, yes, but quite warm, and I’ve been feeling overly warm for a while now.

Salting before tasting the food just makes no sense to me, unless you’re somebody who knows they like incredible amounts of salt on their food. I wouldn’t salt a dish at the end of cooking before tasting it, so why would I do the same at the table?

But, yes, I sometimes use salt at the table if I was off while cooking. I can’t really remember a time I needed salt added to restaurant food. Maybe I’ve gotten some undersalted fries before, but restaurant food is usually adequately salted, perhaps even over salted at times. I rarely encounter an under salted dish. Then there’s my wife, who would salt a block of salt, given the chance. I always have plenty of Kosher salt in a salt cellar (well, ramekin) to sprinkle on food at the table.

I usually like freshly cracked black pepper on many things I eat. A bottle of Valentina, Tabasco, or Crystal is nice on anything fried, including fries. I love my vinegar-based hot sauces. There’s so many things I eat that can be improved with a splash of vinegar, and with those, I get a kick of heat I like to boot!

It does sound like the 'Rona… If she starts coughing a lot, or has other symptoms indicating low oxygen, hie her to the dr. We’re in another wave, and this one sounds like a more serious illness.

Counterpoint: french fries and popcorn.

I talked to the mortgage people last night. The goal is to get the last (ha - it is to laugh) round of paperwork to them by Friday and lock everything next week. The house closes on October 20. I’m a little worried that it won’t appraise to the sales price because of the market turn, which would mean that we need to come up with more cash or that we would walk and leave cash. Neither option sounds appealing. I suppose we’ll see how it goes.

The pressure changes all week have played havoc on my little family of migraine sufferers. I hope after we endure this last wave of heat we’ll settle down into a more tolerable Fall. I hope.

My mom’s 80th birthday party is coming up. As per usual, my dad is riding roughshod over all the planning - location, meal, cake. My sister has taken to calling him a bully behind his back. She and I are planning a second get together behind my dad’s back, so my mom can get to do what she actually wants to do. She’s 80. She should get that.

Happy Thursday everyone! Take care.

True. But those are completely unsalted when done so you know the salt content to begin with: 0%.

Had to mask up this morning while making breakfast. I used Cajun spice on the fried potatoes, and the cayenne (like most hot chilis) gives me an asthma-like attack. It dates back to a day in Portugal some 30 years ago when I accidentally dumped a large clump of piri-piri into a pan with hot grease and it went airborne. Thought I was going to die on the spot, and ever since then I’ve been sensitive to peppers.

The rent is due today; I just can’t get used to it. The last time I paid rent was in about 1978.

I think we’re going to cancel our renter’s insurance. I really can’t see any reason to have it. We live in a building with 24-hour concierge service, and anything disastrous enough to collapse the building will probably kill us in the process. On top of that, insurance companies usually won’t pay off on the things that normally go wrong, so what’s the point.

Afternoon all. Shopping has been completed, for once I got everything on my list at one store. Used the self-checkout, which I don’t like to do when I have a cart-load, but they only had two checkout lines open and they were backed up, so I managed to do it myself. Have drank a Pepsi with ice to cool down and will head to the gym in about an hour and try to pedal away the morning’s calories.

Kids (and parents) are letting me know if they will be at the soccer games Saturday, one of them has a great excuse…his Mom works for NASA and they are going to Florida to see the Artemis launch on Saturday (weather and science permitting). Almost asked if they could adopt me… 50% chance of rain on Saturday, so we’ll see if anything gets played.

Sunny, good on Sis and you seeing to Mom’s needs and wishes.

Wheelie, hope Mrs W tests negative. And no horror pictures this time of your arm! Let them get it right the first time!

Nettie, sounds like you were pretty productive to a slothful one like me.

OK, need to finish up some internettin’ and then prepare for the gym. All y’all take care

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 21c/70f with a predicted high of 22c/71f and cloudy. Weather app says “I’d love to give you some fucking quote about clouds and looking on the bright side, but that’s what fucking internet memes are for.” So there you have it!

Oopsie I’m sorry about your friend, it’s such an awful thing to happen to anyone

Wheelie hope Mrs W tests negative and gets better soon.

Sunny well done to you! Mum should get whatever she wants, she’s only going to be 80 once!

I have had an utter bitch of a day. I can’t remember a day when I have been so very stressed and ready to just chuck it all in. On top of that, I went to pick up my new glasses and while they seemed fine at the opticians, when I tried them at home it was obvious that both pairs were wrong. I can’t use the close work ones because things are not in focus properly, and the distance ones that should have made things much clearer are actually making things more of a blur than before. Back to the opticians I go, but not until next Saturday because I need to see the eye specialist and the techie person as well.

Then we had to do an emergency run to the cattery, we are away over the weekend and had planned to drop the cats there in the morning until 'im indoors realised we would need to do that today instead because we are on an early train down to London. So we had to dash over there earlier but the mogs are safely deposited now. Spare Cat is going to wonder what’s going on as the cat flap’s still open but there are no big floofs in the house.

Right…off to do more irk things before my boss implodes…

Lookit me, postin’ in the middle of the day on a Thursday! Wheee!!!

2/3 of today’s appointments are done: the dentist was quick and relatively painless, then the phlebotomist did a stellar job and that appointment was also quick and actually painless (I thanked her three times!). I’ve been at my computer since I got home and in addition to finally eating something (my labs were fasting) I’m now caught up on email, etc. I put gas in the car on the way home from the lab, and even called my vet to make next month’s appointment for Bailey’s annual exam!

The only other thing I could have already accomplished today was going to the nearby gym and looking into personal training sessions. I actually passed it on the way home, but I was in the left-most lane (of a 6-lane divided highway) and by the time I realized that (a) I was going to be passing the gym and (b) it was the perfect time to finally go check out the facility and ask about training I couldn’t move over to the right lane in time. There’s still a chance I’ll decide to go there after Bailey’s PT appointment this afternoon, but odds are low. I’ve been putting it off for months…what’s another week or two (or six)?

(I know, I know: why not just go tomorrow? Because it’s my first day off with nothing to do in a long time, and I hope to neither shower nor put on “real” clothes all day. )

Chegfuy, I’ve had renters’ insurance for the past 28 years. It’s so that if something were to happen that wasn’t my fault – e.g., a burst pipe, someone drives into the house, etc. – I can get reimbursed for any of my stuff that’s damaged as a result. There’s also some family liabilty/guest medical coverage in there, but mostly I have it for the personal property replacement. It’s pretty cheap – $170/yr for a $33,000 liability limit w/a $250 deductible – so I don’t mind. Also, most of my property managers have required it; you might want to check on that before you cancel your policy.

Almost time to head to Bailey’s first physical therapy session… the dog in question is currently snoozing in the hall, with no idea of what’s in store…heh heh heh!

That made me laugh out loud!

Buddy’s a bit unhappy (he’ll get over it, he doesn’t have that much of an attention span). I’ve mentioned he’s lately decided that the dryer is a great kitty nap spot. We have a stacking washer/dryer unit. I’d started that load of laundry, and left the washer lid open to give the contents a soak cycle. Went in to close the washer lid, and an orange head popped out of the dryer with a rather sad expression. He does not like having the washer running when he’s in the dryer.

And just as I finished typing, he came to settle into my lap. He’ll be fine :).

Allie’s helping DH sleep. Misty is rather vocal today.

Laundry is in the dryer, so if I forget about it (out of sight, out of mind) at least it won’t get mildewy.

I brought the big trash bag full of (not rinsed) cans and bottles to the deposits thingy next to Wally World.
… now my car smells like fermented soda, because why wouldn’t the bag leak?

Anyway, I got a slip for a bit over seven bucks. Considering the minimal time spent, it’s still a fair trade … except I didn’t cash it in. Yet.

Didn’t take long to process the bottles’n’cans, but to redeem the slip, you gotta queue up for Customer Service or at a regular (not self check out) cashier.

Once I saw the lines, I went home. Clipped the slip to my fridge with a magnet - that seven dollars is Future Shoe’s problem. Customer service was easily ten customers deep, and there were only two regular cashiers, and each had a cart in line that looked like the Beverly Hillbilly car - stuffed past the brim.

Yeah, no.

Got sent over to the 200 laterr than yesterday, but still cleaned it up… Untill they rewraps showed up. I did have Deb, J, and Hazardous Ken helping today, so we got out at the same time(the computer at the slide BSOD-ed at 11:30, so there was a delay.

I like it. It shall be a permanent part of my collection.

Well, if you alphabetized it like I do, you’d know. :stuck_out_tongue:
But hope the in laws re sensible, for once.

Welcome to my world. And re: renters insurance. it helps replace the stuff you lose if there’s an issue. Of course if you’re going into Zen mode, then there’s no need to reacquire worldly attachments.

Hope the Mrs. feels better, Wheelie!

Having my last butternut squash ravioli TV dinner before heading out to work. I’ve doctored it (1.) up with a bit more cheese & a splash of olive oil. Hopefully I didn’t render it inedible.

(1.) It = the frozen microwave meal, not the job. I did not fling olive oil at my manager.

We had that last night. Melted some butter on it and added grated Parm. Ours wasn’t the frozen version, though.

Allie is voluntarily about a foot from Buddy on the bed. DH is getting pictures now.
