Pass the salt in the MMP

Well, damn. A former student who was a country music standout and won many awards, died today by his own hand. He was one of those kids with a rich inner life. Sadly, his outer life proved to be an unworthy component.

I’m so sorry we lost him. I hope his family gets to see him soon.

Luke Bell?

I don’t know how much confidentiality precludes me from saying, so I’ll just say that’s a distinct possibility.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

{{{{Mrs. Flyboy}}}}

{{{{nellie}}}}

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 92 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. We shall procure provisions this mornin’ and have decided to be bears who N.O.L. and go to our favorite Mexican place. Thus, there will be no need to cook. I’m up for that.

MOOOOOOM hope teh intartoobz are workin’ for ya soonest.

flyboy it has been a couple of rough months for the Missus.

Nellie sorry about your former student and all the drama with the lens, sis and SIL etc. Yay for fixed blinds however!

JtC you got mad bidet installin’/terlet fixin’ skillz!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, bother of bothers, I suppose I must purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. How I do suffer for my public!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

But none near us do - this part of the state is not a big draw for retirees, so facilities and services are limited.

Whyever for???

My intrarwebz got fixed overnight, so huzzah! FCD would have gone crazy - he watches lots of TV and since ours is streaming… In fact, he’s gone crazy anyway - intrarwebz still not working at his folks’ place, but he hasn’t bothered to call the provider  - claims he will today. They were going to buy a new TV last night, but FIL wasn’t feeling up to it and I think he got on FCD’s last nerve. I could tell thru his texts that he’s sooooo frustrated. He feels like a bad guy for being upset. Um, I don’t think a bad guy would drive 13 hours to help his folks. Not sure if he’ll be home tomorrow or not.

Meanwhile, I’ve started packing up for the trek to my mom’s. Mostly my swimwear and food/formula for Tobias. I’ll fill a baggie of Cheerios for car snacking. And my tablet is charged for Roxy to use on the trip there. I expect her to sleep all the way home. (Hah - yeah, right,)

Speaking of the most amazing granddaughter in the world…

I got to sit in on her testing/evaluation - as background, my daughter was concerned about her speech/comprehension progression. Anyway, there were two women there testing her - each also spoke to me as the other was working with Roxy. The most difficult part for me was not correcting Roxy when she started getting antsy (it was like 45 minutes long.)

They started with age-appropriate skills and kept going. Didn’t stop till she was nailing 6-to-7 y/o skills - they were really impressed (or really good actors.) The one that cracked me up: the tester posed: “Fly like a bird, swim like a what?” and Roxy answered “Mermaid!” But she could write her name, then when the teacher wrote a word, Roxy copied it. And (I didn’t know she knew this) she wrote her numbers from 1-10! I know she counts - I just didn’t know she was writing her numbers.

On the negative side, she’s easily bored and distracted… then again, she’s 4. I think that’s part of the age. I did ask about next year when she starts kindergarten - since she’s so far ahead already, I don’t want her kindergarten year to be wasted. They assured me the teachers do their best to keep all kids challenged. It will be up to my daughter to stay on top of that. I wish we could keep her in Montessori longer, but unless we hit the lottery, that ain’t gonna happen.

Enough bragging and stuff. I need to get the dishes done before the kids get here. Not looking forward to 2+ hours on the road with them - they’ll sleep on the way home, but they’ll be wide awake on the ride there. Dammit!

Happy Wednesday!!

Good morning everyone.

It’s 64 degrees and the expected high is 88. Still looking forward to autumn.

nellie, I’m glad your blinds were fixed and hope the lens and imaging come soonest. I don’t know why getting things done is so hard anymore. Everything takes multiple calls or follow-ups and it’s frustrating. I am always suspicious when things go smoothly the first time, lol! I am sorry about your former student.

FCM, yay for Roxy! I never had my son tested, but his kindergarten teacher was always complaining about how he was off doing his own thing and easily bored. I then asked what she was teaching him and that’s when I laughed at her. He went into school already knowing how to write and count and they were still teaching the class that. He was BORED and the teacher was too lazy to veer from her curriculum to find something to challenge him. The next year they wanted to put him in advanced classes. Unfortunately, I had no way of getting him there and back because I worked, so I had to work on my own to find stuff to keep him challenged and he had several teachers that worked with me.

I had a long day yesterday; I worked over 12 hours and was ready for bed by 7:30, but forced myself to stay awake until about 9:00. I fear today will be the same.

Sending hugs, yays and boos as appropriate. I hope you all have a great day!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 20c/67f with a predicted high of 21c/70f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Not sure what I was going to say here. My mind is fucking blank”. Yep, that’s how I feel too.

metalmouse Yes, we are very lucky to be living on Europe’s doorstep. Sadly not lucky enough that a bunch of utter gloytes didn’t decide to vote against being able to just nip across the border. We will soon have to apply for a visa to get into Europe which I am more than happy to do, it’s just going to be a pain in the posterior.

shoe Daddies is the perfect accompaniment to a bacon sandwich, don’t be fooled by the deluded people who would say you should put ketchup on it, they are clearly not right in the head. Daddies, every time!

nellie We have been to Antwerp several times, 'im indoors lived and worked there for a few years so we know our way around. The zoo is lovely and just right for a Sunday stroll to clear your head. There’s a sister zoo also, not too far away in Mechelen that we might try to visit as well, they have baby spotted hyenas who were born in August!

Mooom sounds like Roxy is a real superstar! I love the mermaid answer, she’s clearly got a very good imagination there.

Right…time to get back to irk and do whatever it is they allegedly pay me for.

@The_Stainless_Steel_Rat

The so-called salt substitute is crap from Hell. I stay far, far away from it.!

Mrs Dash makes several excellent products. We really enjoy the packet seasonings for tacos and sloppy joes! They are so good, you forget you’re not getting salt! Mrs Dash also offers marinades in a bottle, very yum!

I found salt-free “beef” and “chicken” bouillon packets by Herb-Ox. Genuine life savers. I play mad scientist in the kitchen with several no-salt spice blends. The stuff I’ve found (and I’m always looking for new) is quite good, and what I cook is decent.

But I miss salt!

For those who say, “Oh, I could never give up salt,” I hope those words never come back to bite you in the butt.

If the choice is enjoying the grandkids and doing things you always dreamed of doing, or sleeping all the time (Mr VOW with his heart failure) or blazing a trail straight to dialysis (my kidneys with an attitude problem), i’ll throw out all the salt, the seasoning mixes, the pickles, the cheese, and the prepared or packaged foods.

Most people brush off the warning signs, thinking that they feel okay, what’s the big deal? And they continue to eat and drink as always.

As for me, I’ll keep trying in the kitchen. The struggle is worth it to me.

~VOW
(But I’ll still bitch and moan!)

Morning all. Pill taken and paper retrieved. This is my one day a week without soccer coaching, so of course I’ll prepare game cards and do coaches training on-line, along with the usual swimmin-n-sauna.

Vow, thanks for the information, I used to use the Morton’s substitute for years but now that I’m taking Lisinopril for Blood Pressure they do not recommend it and my thyroid numbers were out of average and regular salt was recommended (must have worked, off those pills now). I think you are doing absolutley the right thing and keep looking for the right combo in the kitchen.

FCM, nice story about Roxy, I do hope the schools will keep her interested, know her parents and grands will do so.

nellie, well, at least you got a nice ride on the bus… But I’d be frustrated with the lens people, might even raise my voice a tad (but not at Melissa, she seems to be a decent sort, at least when not on the phone). And sorry about your former student.

flyboy, hope everything works out on the great gun sell-off. And hope Wifey doesn;t get too depressed; that’s a hard thing to take. Tell her to stop by here if she needs cheering up/a shoulder to cry on.

Well yes, after all you’re not a guy…

shady, I’m a committed Pepsi drinker, I do check all the 12-paks and rotate them to use the newest first (have them out until May 2023 now). Guess the 2 liter bottles don’t last as long.

OK, need to do something moderately constructive today. All y’all have a good one.

Today is downright sparkly outside. Cool, around 60F, perfect for a walk, though I’ve got to take mom to get her chemo so should probably do my job instead, though I will indulge in 20 minutes on my back porch with some coffee.

I woke up to a very clogged kitchen drain this morning and a backed up disposal. Guess I’ll keep dumping boiling water down it periodically until it dissolves and/or the husband unit wakes up and wants to know what in the world I’m doing. I know exactly what caused it, which really doesn’t help. I’ve got a drain snake, but can’t find the bit to hook it up. Oh, well - first world problems.

I’m glad to be halfway through the week. The open houses, parent meetings, and other back to school events can end anytime now. Overlyhusband’s appointment is on Friday morning; I finally convinced him that he needs me to come back with him after the colonoscopy because he’s going to be loopy and if his doctor tells him something important he may need an extra, fully-functioning brain with him to ask questions and write things down. I’m sure he’ll be extra mortified but I just want the guy to be healthy, dammit. He tries to thwart me at every turn.

Hugs to Mrs. Flyboy - I can’t imagine how challenging her job must be.

nellie, I’m so sorry to hear about your student.

True! And there’s no higher calling.

One of the cardiac nurses during my procedure is named Love. That’s his name, it’s not a nickname. I told him that’s the perfect name for his chosen professsion.

If you mean potassium chloride, yeah, I’ve tried that stuff. I found that I was using a huge amount of it trying to make things ‘salted’. It’s also one of those things that TV drama writers like to declare as a poison. “Oh, he was poisoned with potassium chloride!” Makes me wonder, it does.
Okay, I just looked it up and it is possible to poison someone with potassium chloride.
Who knew?

I’ll need to look into some of those Mrs Dash products next time I go to the store. I’m supposed to limit my salt intake somewhat.
Thanks for the info.

I’ll have to look for some of that brown sauce too. Sounds interesting. I’m generally not a fan of sauces, but I try to keep an open mind.

Gotta go give Gibbs his pills. Happy Hump Day y’all!

@Bumbazine

@Chefguy recommended to me an online store, Here

That place has everything! Keep your eyes on the prize, LOL, and look for the no-salt blends.

~VOW

Penzey’s has a lot of no-salt blends, as well.

Thank you Vow and Chefguy. There’s a couple of Penzey’s stores in Portland and we’ve shopped there for years but it never occurred to me to seek out no-salt blends while there.

They are everywhere at Penzey’s. Dude went nuts a couple of years ago and reformulated just about every blend to be salt-free.

So I got sent over to the 200 Slide early. I had everything under control…and then the package cars left, and they dumped a ton of stuff on us. Glad I get paid by the hour. Also the supervisor, Screaming O, asked me to start changing my paycode when I go to the slide(for accounting reasons). Also doing under the other code irked me in a petty way, since it came up as “unskilled labor”. :face_with_raised_eyebrow: I am slightly more talented than that.

I got a bunch of 'em.

Yay for Roxstar, FCM!

Hallelujah! When I didn’t hear from imaging scheduling this morning (surprise, surprise), I called them. I have an appointment for TOMORROW! Whew! That’s a relief. Now for the big question of whether the lump looks malignant. Hopefully the radiologist will talk with me about what he finds. I’m SO relieved to finally have an appointment–and so soon!

I may call ol’ Melissa this afternoon–not that she’ll answer or call me back, but maybe my luck has turned.

FCM, no surprise that Roxy is such a smarty-pants, considering her DNA. I love the “mermaid” answer.

I love Penzey’s!

Afternoon all. Swimmin’ has been accomplished, A mile in 59:40 plus sauna keeps the weight below 280. And then to make the day even better, I got a message from the Water Department. I had given them a copy of my bill for repairing the water leak last month, and they (in their munificence), have credited my account the princely sum of $128.32. Not a huge amount, but given my normal water bill, might not owe them a dime until next year, so that will be nice. May water the yard tomorrow just to celebrate.

nellie, great news on the appointment, hope they are doing both items, and who knows, maybe the lens show up way early…

That’s brilliant.

talkie, between school stuff and husband’s rear-end exam, sounds like an interesting week.

OK, need to do some more reading and we’ll see what else is going on. Take care all.
