password changing

I tried to change my password (casus my friend is going to subscribe me) so I could change it back to my fave afterwards.

It wont let me.
Help?

I just tried it and it worked like a charm. What message do you get when you try? Did you type your old password correctly (case is important)? Did you type your new password and then retype it correctly to confirm it?

If you still can’t get it, email one or more of the administrators. They can reset your password for you. I don’t know if they’ll set it to one of your choosing (I think they will, but don’t quote me), but you can include it in your request, if you wish. Be sure to send the email from your email account which you have registered here, since that is the only way they have to positively identify you as you.

Early on in my days here, I wanted to change my user ID, and Dex kindly did it on my request – didn’t have to do anything. I would imagine any mod/admin can get into your account and make any such changes (like changing your status from “Member” to “Asshat”).

No, definitely email an admin (or several–sometimes one might be unavailable or bussy). The mods are nice folks to be sure, but all they could do is forward your request to an administrator.

Or you COULD click the little button that says ‘Forgotten Your Password’.

Checking the FAQ, one can read

I lost my password, what can I do?
If you forget your password, you can click on the ‘Forgotten Your Password’ link on any page that requires you to fill in your password.

This will bring up a page where you should enter your registered email address, and an email will be sent to that address instantly, with instructions for resetting your password.

Since my heartburn is not acting up terribly right now, and since I have the admin CP open anyway, I sent you an email reminder of your password. Of course, if that address in your profile is not current, then it won’t get there.

Mods and admins cannot see your password, by the way. Admins can reset it if we need to.

Only admins can change status. And we can only do that if we feel that the chewing out we get will be worth it. In some cases, it is.
