CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD (instructions)

Okay, someone hacked into us and eased in at administrator level. That means that your passwords have been compromised. There’s an announcement thread at the top of each forum and we’re working on a mass email to all Dopers.

But in case you missed it, or don’t remember HOW:

  1. Click on profile. A screen will pop up asking you to verify your screenname and password. Enter 'em.

  2. Hit submit. You’ll be taken to the profile page where you can change your password.
Standard stuff: pick a new password, enter it twice for verification.
You can also change any other profile stuff you want, like interests, etc.

  3. If you can’t remember your password, click the link that says “Forgot your password?”.
It will ask you for your email address; use the one you’re currently using. Your password will be emailed to you within a few seconds.

  4. If you get stuck, i.e. can’t remember email addy or password you registered with, email either TubaDiva@aol.com or Lynnbodoni@hotmail.com and they’ll help you out.

It’s a hassle for all of you and we hate it. Amazing the crap a sociopath can dump on innocent people. But this jerk has extorted plenty of hassle and it’s necessary to prevent leeway for more damage.

But what about those days when you feel … not so fresh …

Sheesh…I have a hard enough time remembering my password at the best of times.

How crucial is this? I mean, why would the jerk want to log in as me anyway? For now, just know that if I post as a jerk, it isn’t me. Really.

I await instructions. I’ll change it if I have to, but you may never hear from me again. I’m not exactly the brightest bulb in the chandelier when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Now shut your mouth, Euty. If you can’t read where I cribbed from your example in MPSIMS…Sheesh. And you’re ALWAYS fresh, kiddo, in sooooo many senses.

Who knew why the putz wanted to attack the board in the first place? On one level, we’ve locked off the worst risk. But why not g’head and reexamine your profile stuff anyway? The Putz played nasty games with prominent users. OTOH it presents an opportunity to revise long-forgotten public profile stuff so maybe it’s a blessing in disguise.

Nooooo!! It’s all so easy; it’s nothing more than you did when you registered here at first. FWIW, I didn’t remember what I’d written for my profile and had to have my password emailed, too.

It isn’t required, no matter what, but we’d be doing wrong by you if we didn’t advise you, okay?

Just remember, people, if I start madly flirting with female dopers, it’s really the hacker.

Thanks, Veb…

It occurs to me that isn’t the brightest thing I ever posted.

I changed my password, in case hackerguy reads this.
