Why doesn’t The straight Dope except my old Password. I have it written down as they gave it to me years ago and has always been valid when they asked me for it?
They were recently hacked, as happens in the best-run sites, and require people to change their passwords. Try to change it in your user control. If it doesn’t work contact a moderator.

I’ve moved your question from General Questions to ATMB. There are many threads there about how to change your password. We’ve all had to do this.
At the top left of a page, on the blue horizontal bar, the first thing is “User CP” which is YOUR user control panel. Click on it.
Next, read the list of options that have appeared on the left. Click on “edit email and password.” Then you just do what it says to generate a new password.
