Patently unattractive, yet sexy/appealing anyway...

Nothing at allll wrong with Lynne. And if you really need a reason, check out the FAQ for inspiration.

My brother works at CNN and says Lynne Russell dresses like an absolute tramp when she’s not on the air. The other day she came in to work wearing a blonde wig, a leopard print jacket and a hot pink miniskirt. So now you have that image to work with.

When Penn & Teller’s movie came out in the late '80s I found myself falling for Penn as well. He’s definitely goofy-looking, yet the blue eyes and the voice and the smile did something for me. It’s just that he’s so…big. Teller is interesting but it’s hard to guess his personality. I get the feeling from both of them that they are kinda angry and defensive about magic and would be hostile to anyone who does not find them both fascinating.

Another celebrity who attracts me in a weird way is George Stephanopoulos. Sometimes he is GQ cover boy gorgeous, and sometimes he is troll-like. (Sorry, George.) Damnedest thing. Same guy, same features. It’s just lighting or luck or something.

Don’t tempt me. You know what I’m capable of.

Lynne Russell… Yum

Drew Carrey is nice, but give me Ian Thornley (lead singer of the band Big Wreck) any day of the week.

Oh man…

Brother, she is way hot!

I can’t really think of anyone myself, but Mrs. Alessan, having heard of theis thread, insisted on me writing in her choice, so here it is -

Tommy Lee Jones.

Besides that, thinking back, I remember her mentioning to me that she considers John Goodman to be the ultimate husband, and that she’s slowly been molding me into him. Scary. Yet also, oddly comforting.

Second the motions on Penn (although not Teller, sorry) and Tommy Lee Jones.

Please add to the list Gerard Depardieu, spare tire and all.

Casting my votes for Drew, Tommy Lee, John G. and Gerard…

But adding Patrick Stewart…He’s bald, much older than me, and has a huge…nose… But…set course for fantasy…ENGAGE! And even “Make it so.”

I used to have a crush on David Letterman, and I’ve always found Patrick Stewart attractive.

Patently unattractive?
I don’t think you can patent unnattractiveness.

Well, I think all of the following are attractive, whereas my friends do not. So I guess since a majority of the people I know disagree, they count as either “conventionally unattractive” or at least “unconventionally attractive.”

Several NASCAR drivers most people have never heard of.

Any member (but especially the lead singer) of Sons of the Desert.

James Hetfield of Metallica.

Grrr. Absentminded me screws up the tags. That should say Sons of the Desert.

:slaps self upside head: PREVIEW!

There’s been multiple threads on this topic before.

My vote always has to go to Sandra Bernhardt. Ugly as sin to look at, but she just oozes sexuality and she has a pretty good sense of humor. I’d do her.

There is nothing wrong with bald men! What’s UNattractive are those guys who do the comb-over thing…ew! PS himself told his own comb-over story on Arsenio Hall, and was very funny too.

Let me share this with you: I get lots of video catalogs in the mail, and I got one catalog with a picture of PS as Scrooge on the cover. I tell you, ladies and gentlemen, the women in my office passed that catalog around. Even the non-Trekkies wanted a look at him. Mmh! Mmh-mmh.

I AM going to bring up Janeane Garafolo because most of the people I know think she is dumpy and unattractive.
My God, is she the BOMB! But I think it is for the same reason that many of you think Penn is attractive. It’s all about personna. Janeane has boucoup personna. And the way she dyed her hair in Mystery Men…grrrrowl. Don’t even get me started on the whole quasi-sexual bowling thing. I could go on for days. You know, the ball, the pins…the shoesmelt

A also have a weakness for Laura Dern, but only in the movie Wild at Heart. She just oozes sexuality in that movie.

For my darkest secret, there was this MST3K movie called Werewolf that had this female lead in it who was just plain weird. She weirded me out, anyway. She had a strange accent. She did it for me, too, but I have no idea why. Really. Werewolves usually turn me off. Not all the time, but at least 73% of the time, anyway.

I can’t think of anyone who I find completely unattractive who is still a sexual powerhouse.

The closest I can come is probably Glenda Jackson. She was certainly not ugly in her prime, but was a bit plain. And she was very hot anyway.

Fanny Ardant is 51 and looks it; she even had gray hair in Elizabeth, and she is still sexy. But any picture of her from her early career shows that she at least was a real classic beauty, so I don’t think she counts for purposes of this question.

Jessye Norman is way too fat to be considered conventionally attractive, and is still quite hot; I wouldn’t tell her no. But her face, again, is quite pretty(certainly a lot prettier than Jackson’s).

What is really needed is someone with a face like Thelma Ritter or Julia Child who somehow manages to be sexy anyway, but I can’t think of any examples.

Gonna agree with TVeblen and co. about Drew Carey. He is so my type-- he has a definite “real guy” kind of vibe about him, and I love that mix of silliness with intelligence and heart. I also happen to find him attractive, though, so I may not be totally following the idea of this thread!

To those of you who mentioned David Letterman–

I had the BIGGEST crush on him when I was a little kid, like, starting around 5 or 6. See, the story is this: my dad worked 2 jobs and he wouldn’t get home until late at night; I’d sometimes wait up for him and we’d watch David Letterman together. To me Mr. Letterman was just the epitome of grown-up coolness. It is because of this that I am a total nightowl and I still have a fetish thing about red hair, especially when it’s attatched to someone intellegent and sarcastic.

David Letterman, he’s dreamy…

I find most lesbians attractive. You know, the boyish, sometimes downright masculine kind? So I’ve always thought Ellen DeGeneres was really hot.

I don’t know of any other male who does at all.
