His funniest Family Guy line, imho: “Sorry about the mess in the upstairs bathroom, but my post sex pee stream forked in half and got all over.” ![]()
I recall Stewart himself referring to (at least some of) the writing as “elevated,” at least for a TV show. But all you have to do is imagine some of the other actors we know making some of those same speeches, to see how much he brought to the role. His years of acting Shakespeare and other brilliant works on the stage certainly stood him in good stead in those speeches.
He also discussed how he approached the series as he did Shakespeare, which is why he gave his now infamous talk to the cast telling them that they shouldn’t have too much fun. I am sure a lot of it was written, but as it often is the case, even with music, it is the performance that sells it.
I really liked how he could be so relaxed and self-deprecating like he is here on the Graham Norton Show: https://youtu.be/iWM8ErZsfiE?si=e8eQm6TGRhoGJ4e0

but what would you drive in the Holodeck?
That is one of my favorite mini-series and where I first noticed Stewart. What a wonderful career and life he had.
That was Leonard Nimoy. Except for the new techs added in Beyond the Sword.
That’s great. The “quadruple take” is a very “Reeves and Mortimer” move.
He was the leader of a white power group in Green Room, and he was scary as hell. Not only was he smart, he was pretty violent as well. Good movie with a great performance by Stewart.
Well shit, you’re right. Damn.
I first saw him playing Claudius to Derek Jacobi’s Hamlet.
When Robot Chicken parodied Picard, he did the voice.
Trying again
O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills,
For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding,
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Captain! dear father!
This arm beneath your head!
It is some dream that on the deck,
You’ve fallen cold and dead.
(Walt Whitman)
“Now let’s all get drunk and play ping-pong!”
There’s something so inherently funny when a serious person, with a serious voice says ridiculous things. Stewart’s built-in gravitas made him devastating when he did comedy.
I saw him on Broadway doing A Christmas Carol, which was wonderful. I ran into him on the street a few hours before the show too. He was wearing a very snappy Fedora. ![]()
It’s fascinating to watch him play Claudius completely differently 28 years later when he played opposite David Tennant.
TBF, we all thought exactly that at some point especially in the early part of the run.
She worked better as a therapist than an empath.
And he never got to play Spider Jerusalem

He’s too old and while Sir Stewart could play my grandmother to perfection, I’d pick a more naturally erratic obnoxious personality. We’re talking about a bald and tatted up Hunter S. Thompson, here. We still have Nicolas Cage.
I remember the day they announced he was cast as Professor X.
“Of course!” said everyone.
