Spam is good in many different situations. I could imagine doing a peanut spam dish (like the chinese peanut chicken) that uses peanut butter in the recipe, as well as peanuts.
I like SPAM plenty but not cold. I only eat it fried.
 sorry i just threw up a little in my mouth! :dubious:
You may laugh, but…
A few years ago a friend gave me a Spam calendar, and one month featured this recipe:
I made it one time and took it to a party expecting it to go over like a lead balloon, but everybody loved the things. The combination was surprisingly tasty.
They make a lower sodium version I can see tasting good with peanut sauce.
I think peanut butter and bacon are a fine combination though.
Just a footnote:
I got to meet Jim Hormel on many occasions (he is the grandson of the founder of Hormel Foods, producer of Spam). Jim is quite the generous philanthropist and was the first openly Gay ambassador (to Luxembourg), nominated for the post by Bill Clinton. He is also a really nice, down-to-earth, guy.
Don’t like Spam, but I do occasionally spring a few bucks for a can of Hormel corned beef hash.
Actually, that does not sound half bad. What goes better with spicy, salty pork than hot, creamy nuts?
To be honest, in many uses there is very little difference between the dish made with spam and with regular ham - mainly a visual clue gives it away. I could feed you a classic deviled ham or ham salad sandwich and you probably couldn’t tell the difference. I have seen ham loaf made with spam instead of ham, and other than it being a bit saltier it was pretty much the same. If you mask the flavors with a spicy sauce like the bang bang spam, or the texture with regrinding or dicing, not much difference. And they do [or did] have a spam cook off competition at one time, I remember seeing it in one of those foodie porn shows on food festivals.
I’ll have to try the low sodium spam, though that sounds like a contradiction in terms.
In fact, I like SPAM. And SPAM salad sandwiches (on soft white bread) were a favourite of dad’s. It’s just the thought of Hormel buying Skippy, and then coming up with a bunch of SPAM-and-peanut butter recipes amused me.
YAY Spam; NAY Skippy.
