This is, without a doubt (ok so there’s some doubt), the most mundane, pointless question but I got it in my head a little bit ago and just had to share it and what better place than the forum for mundane, pointless things?
Ever since I can remember, people in my house sang this song… and it goes like this:
Peanuuuuuuuuuuut, peanut buuutter…(whispered) with jelly
repeat ad nauseum… I have no idea where it came from, but my parents insist its something neither of them just made up… Only now after 19 years is it beginning to truly become irksome, and I’m curious if ANYbody else has ever heard this little “jingle”
However, I seem to recall more verses. Something like:
“Well you get yourself some bread and you slice it.
You slice it, slice it, sliceitsliceitsliceit.
Then you get yourself some jelly and you spread it.
You spread it, spread it, spreaditspreaditspreadit.”
yes I seem to remember those other lines too now that you mention it, though kids these days (aka: my little brothers) just don’t know what they’re doing…All i hear from them is that first line repeated over and over… Maybe I should teach them the rest…that way either they’ll at least not be repeating the same ONE line over and over, or they’ll just get frustrated with the whole thing and stop
I don’t remember how many verses there were to that song (probably no more than four or six). But Spritle has the essentials pretty much down. The only thing I can remember in addition to that was a verse about eating the sandwich and instead of singing “peanut, peanut butter” you hummed like your mouth was full.
A group I used to hang with back in my UIowa days put together a radio comedy show and they recorded a version of that for some reason or another. This one fellow - large dude, he - took the chorus and sang it in a deep, gravelly, raspy voice. It was a hoot to hear him go “mmmmm” on the final chorus.
First you take the peanuts and you pick 'em, you pick 'em,
You pick 'em, pick 'em, pick 'em
Then you crush 'em, crush 'em,
You crush 'em, crush 'em, crush 'em
Then you spread 'em, spread 'em,
You spread 'em, spread 'em, spread 'em…
Then you take the berries and you pick 'em, you pick 'em,
You pick 'em, pick 'em, pick 'em
Then you crush 'em, crush 'em,
You crush 'em, crush 'em, crush 'em
Then you spread 'em, spread 'em,
You spread 'em, spread 'em, spread 'em…
Actions:
Pick: pretend to pick berries
Crush: squish something between your hands
Spread: use one hand to spread pb/jam over other hand*
