Peanut Butter

When making a PB sandwich (no jelly) should I butter the bread or not.

to me, peanut butter and butter is a great combo.

Even better to put it on toast.

There was a time when I would have said this was redundant, but then I discovered Canadian bacon and bacon pizza.

I’d rather leave out the jelly than the butter.

What do you mean by butter the bread? Do you mean apply peanut butter to the bread? Or apply actual dairy butter to the bread? If the latter, no as that would be weird.

Butter adds new dimensions in taste and texture to peanut butter. Go for it. My dad loved butter, peanut butter, and onion sandwiches. I just omit the onions.

Yes

I will second this. Occasionally spreading peanut butter on top of buttered toast earns me some looks from my Better Half (what, not enough fat content?) but it adds a whole additional layer of flavor to the profile.

I’ve only had peanut butter and butter at restaurants where they provide pre-buttered toast. I don’t recall it ever opening up new vistas of flavour.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I don’t bother with slices of processed cheese if I get a Subway sub.

Do you like it? Then do it!

It’s never occurred to me to do this – then again, I don’t usually do plain peanut butter sandwiches. If I don’t do jelly, then I do something like pickles or hot peppers or cheese or deli meat. But, yeah, I could see this working. Have at it.

Not…

  • Dairy butter plus peanut butter
  • Peanut butter on dry bread

Just peanut butter for me. And a glass of milk (and maybe some Nacho Cheese Doritos on the side).

I love raw onions so this sounds good, skip the butter though, add bacon.

:bacon:
:onion:
:peanuts: :butter:
:bread:

I don’t care if you put butter on it (or honey) or not but if it’s not toasted, it’s wrong. PB&J untoasted, okay. PB&B(anana) untoasted, maybe.

Buttered toast with peanut butter is one thing, the melted butter on the toast loses some of it’s creamy flavor. But lots of cold butter on bread with peanut butter is another experience entirely! The creamy sweet unctuousness of the butter contrasts with the sticky salty heft of the peanut butter.

Especially on fresh-baked bread from the bakery.

Well, I never do, for whatever it’s worth; I like nothing but peanut butter on my peanut butter sandwich. No jelly, no jam, no bananas, bacon, or bovine butter, and no mayonnaise.

This is another factor; the butter adds some lubricant to the peanut butter.

Another one who never thought of PBB. Or just plain PB. Do like me some buttered toast, tho. As a kid, I used to like PB and honey on toast.

These days, my standard is PBJ untoasted - blueberry if you have it.
