Pearls Before Swine 3/10/06

OK. I don’t get “stay away from the light” in my favorite comic today.

It’s the opposite of the old “Walk into the light!” joke, referring to what people who claim to have near-death experiences see when they almost die. The animals are trying to revive the tomato, and telling him not to give up and walk into the light (and die).

That explanation doesn’t make it funny, but I don’t think anything can make PBS funny. :stuck_out_tongue: (I keed, I keed)

Thanks, I just wasn’t thinknig like a crocodile.

You better be keeding; today’s strip was friggin’ hilarious.

I love the crockydiles.

Definitely a reference to Poltergeist. I even heard the short, old lady’s voice while reading it.

That would require that you scoop out 9/10 of your current brain volume and replace it with swampwater…dem guys eez D-U-M, DUMB!

They DID manage to successfully grow a whole field of Baby Zebras[sup]*[/sup], though.

I am SO going to refer to tomatoes as baby zeebas from now on. For a while at least.

I want to be Rat when I grow up.

Heh! What’s black and white and red all over? BABY ZEEBAS!

Sadly, far too often I AM Pig now

You no geeve up da day job, Jayjay.

That’s what I thought. The “Stay away from the light” made me laugh out loud.

Quoted for truth!

“What you think, we stoopid?” Well, duh

Me thinks this be good place ask: Bun-bun or Rat, who wins fight?

Follow-up question: If Rat got Nate (First Mate of the pirate ship Revenge) really angry, what would happen?

Rat has a nuclear weapon.

I rember reading the strip occasionally a few years ago and just not seeing anything funny. Then one day I read it and it was freaking hilarious. So I just decided to go back and look at the archive to see if the strip was funny and i did not notice, or if the strip got better. So far I have think I must have been asleep when I thought the strip was not funny.

I don’t know when I started reading it, but the series where the characters climbed on top of their panels and observed the other comics in progress had me hooked.

That odd twitch of surreality in the comic world was refreshing.

My favorite one:
A waitress asks Pig, “Would you care for a cup of coffee?”
He answers, “If it needed me and no other family member could take it in.”
<beat>
Waitress: “Is that a yes?”
Pig: “YES!”

The last panel is pig cradling the cup of coffee and saying, “Shhhhh…”

I cut it out and have it on my fridge.

I loved the series where Osama Bin Laden was hiding out with the most out-of-it family in all of America–the one from Family Circus. I believe one of the panels was “Now, Osama, after the blessing we say ‘Amen’, not ‘Death to America’.”
