Pence harangued by cast of Hamilton

Your first amendment rights end when you enter the theater. That’s what bouncers are for.

Yes, by all means, make light of discrimination.

They’re going to have a great time chasing down people who cough or phones that mysteriously only ring once.

I’m making fun of your suggestion. I though that was perfectly obvious. I think everyone else understood it.

Here’s Pence’s reaction to the whole event:

Again, I disagree a lot with Pence, but there’s no question that he is a real grown-up.

If only the cast were.

Yeah, god forbid anyone acknowledge the existence of politics. Your comments remind me of this Dave Chappelle bit - it has salty language.

That’s why we get paid the big bucks.

The more I see people getting worked up over this, the more I can’t believe it’s a story. This is an inherently political play about social justice throughout American history. Anyone not expecting shit to get political at this play is an idiot, and the message that the cast delivered was so over-the-top diplomatic and gracious I am baffled that people could take offense. Not even Pence was offended.

ETA: I happen to think booing anyone is rude, so I do not support the booing. But the cast of Hamilton specifically requested that the booing cease.

Yeah, it’s odd how Pence appears, at least publicly, to be one of the least angry people about it, as his brave defenders (President-elective and Doper alike) fume furiously at the outrageous audacious insultingness of it all.

 At least the audience knows to bring plastic tarps for protection.

…and you’re honestly there for their safety.
If a normal person spends that much and waits that long to see Hamilton… and the dickhead next to him starts trying Frat Boy tricks, the least they will do is rat them out to the audience… and if the performers stop and walk off stage… that audience might be a mob.

I hear there isn’t a lot of space between hard metal seats… and if people bent the head of the prankster between the backrests of the seats in front of him and say… sat on the back of his head, his skull could be crushed!

Thankfully, Bouncers can safely remove such protesters before the crowd gets to them.

So, who was playing frat boy pranks, again, and when did the performers stop the play and walk off stage? I understand neither of those things occurred.

No one understands his posts. Its basically always nonsensical rambling.

…because Hamilton was …you know…killed by Vice President Aaron Burr.

Actor here. Haven’t read the rest of the thread.

I find this incident hideously rude, inappropriate, and unprofessional. Audience members are guests, and are to be treated respectfully. One does not call them out by name and ambush them with a political statement like the cast did. Content is irrelevant. Pence did not consent to being a part of the show. He was there as a private citizen. He should not have been singled out for a lecture.

The cast is perfectly free to express their ideas in any appropriate forum. A curtain speech is not an appropriate forum.

Oakminsters post brings a question to my mind.

Were ALL the cast and crew asked if they were okay with this? Not just the message but whether it was a proper/professional thing to do in general?

They insisted on having input in the message.

Pence was OK with it. He said he wasn’t offended.

He said he wasn’t offended. Doesn’t mean he wasn’t.

“I’ll get you my pretties. And your little play, too!”

I’m baffled that you think he wasn’t offended. You’re confused by his manners.

Well bless you’re heart. You think it’s rude to boo someone but not to publicly chastise them.
