People born in 1986 make me sad.

I can’t seem to wrap my mind around the fact that the babies born in the year I graduated high school, 1986, are turning 18 this year!
I’ve thought about it, rationalized and reasoned with myself, and have tried to accept it. It just seems so bizarre.
Has anyone else felt like this? Am I going to go into a mid-life crisis now? Do women have those- I’ve only ever heard of men having them.
Will I grow my hair long, get a curly perm, and go out a buy a red convertible?

Most of their mothers were born after I graduated from High School, so get a grip!

Tris

I’m sorry I make you sad. But, it’s hard on me also. I mean, in a few months, I’m going to be an adult…YOU’LL GET MY CARTOONS AFTER YOU PRY THEM FROM MY COLD, DEAD HANDS!!

Go for it! Then in another 45 years you will have a little something to look back on.

I’m not worried. My brother is one of them :stuck_out_tongue:

I always link ages to certain events. Like, to me for instance, people born in 1986 were only two years old when Holland won the 1988 European Championships. And I was drinking myself silly in a bar when we beat Gemany in the semis.

All right, I was a tad underage to be drinking at 15 (16’s the limit here), but hey, it was an end tournament. Anything goes.

And now, those same 2 year olds are taking driving lessons. Yikes.

I’m only 31 you know, I’m not supposed to feel this old.

I do this too. And I link it to music too.

Just think how old these kids were when Nirvana released Nevermind…

Hey! I’m one of them. I turned 18 last monday
I drank, I got my genitalia pierced. I did everything young people do. So stop reminding me that one day I’m gonna be old, like you ! :stuck_out_tongue:
jk.
Cheers

What, drinking yourself silly in a bar? Of course you do! You’re a Brit for God’s sake. You’d lose your passport if you didn’t.

Nevermind was what, 1992? Seems like yesterday to me… but putting figures in place, I was in fact a 19 year old college student, instead of a 31 year old fat bastard. Talk about a world of difference. People who are 19 now, were 6 back then. They probably think of Cobain like I think of Elvis: he was alive when I was born, but other than that, he’s a dead icon - not someone who’s influence I actually experienced.

Yet, some things are so engrained in a culture that you didn’t have to see them first hand to “know” what they meant. Today is the 30 year aniversary of a very dark day in Dutch history. An entire TV station will be devoted to it tonight, from 8 PM until far after midnight. I was but a year old when it happened, but I know what traumatic an experience it was, for almost every Dutchman.

I’m sure at least the EuroDopers know of which Dark Day I speak…

Why are you doing this to me?

S’matter, ya don’t like football/soccer?

Well no, I don’t. In fact, I find it actively painful to watch, but that really wasn’t what I meant.

Yeah, yeah, yeah----I’ve got freaking grandchildren who were born in 1986. Well, not really, but since I was born in 1940, it’s certainly possible. When you get old enough to have finished high school in 1958, come see me and we will cry together.

Ouch. You’re devoting a whole evening to that? Wouldn’t it be better to focus on… ooh… the 1988 semi final?

sniff

We must learn to deal with it at some point, kabbes. But yes, I agree. It’s nationalised masochism taken to extremes.

The VCR will be purring, I’ll tell you that. If we get kicked out after the group matches in Portugal, at least I can look back to when we REALLY kicked arse.

We had an evening devoted to an England “Dream Team” last week. It was actually sad how bad many of the nominated players were. Guess we’ve never been quite as good as I thought at the time. I mean – really. Phil Neale?? But I digress.

One of the many things I had to witness was a replay of Van Basten turning Tony Adams every which fucking way out before slotting the ball home in 1988. And yes – you really did have the best team in the world back then. Possibly the best team ever.

It was good all right - but the best in the world, ever? Eh, an idea for another thread, perhaps. Let’s not talk about footie too much, there’s folks trying to discuss the pros and cons of people were born in 1986, here.

You really want to depress yourself? Just consider for a moment that to those born in 1986, George Foreman has always been a grill salesman.

Wow! I was born in 1958, finished highschool in 1976 and got married in 1986. I don’t feel old most days anyway

I can’t get over the fact that I have a stepdaughter born in 1986 and that I lust after her hottie friends and then feel like such an incredible dirty old man.

I think I’m becoming the kind of guy we used to warn her about
