What claim am I making that’s circular? I’m saying, when you’re too old to work, your needs are going to be served by the people who are currently children. The doctor who will take care of you in the hospital, the road crew who repairs your street, the men who take away your trash. You have to invest them now so they can take care of your needs when you and your generation are too old to do it. IS there something in there that needs citation? If you disagree with it, could you say more about why than the oh so articulate “yup”? Unless you’re just trolling, in which case, yawn.
And just how are we going to pay for both the Obama deficits, and Social Security in 40 years? I don’t think we can do both.
I have a question. Do you intend to refuse any further SSDI funding when you have reached the benefit amount that you have paid in?
I borrowed the lame-ass “yup” from post 1210, although you’re prolly to stupid to realize it.
Yeah, it’s my stupidity that’s showing here. Yup. Trolling. Yawn.
It doesn’t matter if there’s any SS left when you retire. Any investments you plan to live on, whether SSI or personal investments, won’t be worth jack shit without a work force.
Not that it’s any of your business, but my personal investments will be just fine, thank you very much. Please, keep your SSI, and stop stealing from me.
So where does that logic come from?
Meh…it’s like arguing with a record with the needle stuck in a groove.
It’s a beautiful day outside, and I’m going to get out and enjoy it. And I’ll thank every parent for having those kids who were SUCH a loathesome burden on society that they now drive the bus and the train I will be boarding, the barista and the chef who will make and serve my latte and toasted foccacia for lunch, the doctor I have to see this afternoon who will make my skin cancers disappear, the vintner who grew the grapes to create the delicious wine I’ll enjoy with dinner…
Thanks to all of you.
What other 300M? Those under 20 are just better than 1/4 of the 300M number that you quote, which I assume that is your estimate of the US population. Of the remaining adults, most of them are parents, grandparents, random friendly neighbors or other family members that you admit recieve utility from children.
Carol Stream argues her beliefs. Those beliefs and her arguments for those beliefs are consistent throughout her posts, albeit (in my opinion) they are not defensible beliefs or winning arguments. She’s not a troll.
I wish that word hadn’t been legalized in the Pit. It’s a term of art on messageboards, and I’d prefer that people just call each others assholes and dumbshits. Maybe that’s just me.
Oh sorry, Frank. Didn’t mean to offend your sensibilities. You don’t think that kids are a button issue, and that Carol Stream gets off on pressing buttons? Then you haven’t been paying attention. She’s obviously hoping to stoke the coals of this dying thread with her deliberately inflammatory and obnoxious comments, right down to ignoring what reasoned response people foolishly bother to write to her in order to continuing making the same bullshit point. It’s business as usual for her.
Yawn. Bored now.
I’m constantly and incessantly bewildered by the mindset of those like you who think taxes are stealing. Please name one successfull human civilization/country/society in which the citizens did not pay in some way to support the good of society.
And what in the world makes you think that Sarafeena is stealing from you? What would lead you to believe that she does not pay the same taxes you do? Why do you think that she receives any more benefit from what she has paid than what you have for what you’ve paid?
If you want to debate about taxes that is one thing. I am a fair tax proponent and can understand what I hope is the intent behind your words. However I see no evidence that Sarafeena deserves that comment.
25 pages into this thread and the critical question remains unanswered.
Won’t someone think of the children???
The United States of America in the Year of Our Lord 2009, where approximately half of the population doesn’t pay federal income tax, AT ALL. Not to mention those blood suckers that get “tax cuts” on top of not paying in the first place.
My post wasn’t directed at Sarahfeena personally, at all. My apologies if that wasn’t clear.
This rings bells; I think we’ve talked about it before. Regardless of how that turned out, it’s not a valid answer to my question. For the purposes of my question, I’m assuming that nobody in a civilization/country/society pays any money to a government or organization for puposes (whether you agree with them or not) which further the betterment of society.
Perhaps I am misunderstanding your stance on taxes. If so, I’ve always misunderstood it, as I have always thought that you were against taxes, period.
You’re right: that’s totally what he asked you to show. Wowza.
Carol, despite your stupidity, I salute you: few folks plan when they’re 80 to grow their own food, haul their own water, repair their own house, and in every other way divorce themselves from reliance on a younger generation, that generation that is currently children. The courage of your convictions is very impressive! I’m sure that if today’s children did not exist, your old age would be unchanged.
What is so amazing about this thread, and no doubt the reason for its length, is that the trolls are tag teaming. As soon as one of them gets tired (I’m looking at you star wars ) another jumps in making the exact same assertions and generating the exact same response. 5-10 pages later they get tired, but then someone else dives in to pick up the slack. Where was Carol Stream up 20 pages ago? Letting someone else do the heavy lifting is the answer.
Do you guys email each other privately to make sure there’s always someone to argue with every other poster?
And about that taxes thing - people don’t pay taxes because they don’t earn any money. Yet the folks that are insanely rich whine all the time because they have to pay a percent of their millions while all those destitute bums get off scot free. Lucky duckies. If you don’t like paying taxes - stop earning money. They you won’t have to either. Simple.
First of all, there’s no investment in the world that will be worth anything without an economy…even cash in a matress would be worthless. Secondly, you have me pegged completely wrong…I believe SSI should be voluntary, and if I could, I would opt out. Thirdly, I pay plenty of taxes, so you don’t have to worry about me stealing from you. But, thanks for all your wrong assumptions…this was fun!
