To the best of my knowledge, as long as it’s not excessive or directed at people (outside this forum), you can say any swear words in any forums. God knows I desperately wish people would quit masking the fucking cuss words in the other forums. Dudes, you’re not fooling anyone with using an asterisk in place of the “u”. Believe it or not, the mods are smart enough to figure out f*ck means “fuck.”

There is no prohibition against swearing in any Forum on the Straight Dope®. You may invoke the deity of your choice to confirm the accuracy of your statements in any post, (although it may cause other posters to laugh at you or consider you odd–it’s just a message board).
There is also no prohibition against profanity, vulgarity, or obscenity in any Forum on the Straight Dope®,
provided it is aimed at persons or objects who do not also post on the Straight Dope®.
In other words, your language may reflect badly on you, but you are free to employ it in any Forum as long as you do not use it as an insult hurled at other posters. Insults are permitted only in The BBQ Pit (where this thread originated, although it may find itself moved to Mundane Pointless Stuff I Must Share (MPSIMS) if the Pit Mods are sufficiently irritated by it).
We do frown on ethnic and racial slurs and a few other forms of disparaging language, but that matter is open to a certain amount of interpretation (and a lot of acrimony), so you are well advised to avoid it.

While swearing is de rigeur here in the pit, it is not as common in the other fora found on the SDMB, although, as our kind moderator states above, it is allowed within certain guidelines.
