Cheney may very well be an evil bag of shit, but, no, he hasn’t. Awarding goverment contracts is not a function which accrues to the vice presidency. Neither is authoring RFPs. The VP may be able to exercise some influence over the process, but damned little of it. Theres are two whole huge sections of of the U.S. Code called FARS (Federal Acquistion Regulation System) & DFARS (Defense Federal Acquistion Regulation Supplement) which govern the manner in which the executive branch may award federal contracts. In neither of these, will you find any powers given to the office of the vice president.

Personally, I think it was more a case of “sucking up to the boss”. The people in the various agencies involved damn well know who’s in charge, and choosing Cheney’s old company is bound to be seen as a good decision by the political higher ups in the administration.

Not very likely. There are thousands of functionaries in the various departments of the executive branch who’re tasked with contract management. I highly doubt Cheney knows the name of any of 'em, or what decisions any of 'em are making.

This comment makes sense only if you willfully ignore much of the content of my posts in this thread. I am absolutely certain I’ve said nothing in Cheney’s defense in this thread. I’m almost as certain I’ve not defended Cheney, in any way, at any time, in any thread on this board. The only issue I have here is with the What Exit?'s cavalier disregard for facts.
It was a throwaway joke at Cheney’s expense. Dude, we do those all the time. I know you’re a Republican, and being on a left leaning board can get tedious, but you could’ve just ignored it and walked away.
