Permitted Rave shut down by People in Fatigues with Assault Rifles

I see. So any time anyone accuses a government organization of doing something wrong, its a conspiracy? Its vast? Its right wing?

You keep using those words. I do not think they mean what you think they mean.

It’s just ExTank’s way of saying “I got nothing. Let me see if a groundless attempt at ridicule will work.”

Maybe it was his way of saying “You’re seeing something that ain’t there.”?

No. Nobody here ever claimed there was a consipiracy. He’s saying if you believe x you must also believe there is a conspiracy…when the two have nothing to do with each other. Its a silly attempt to paint anyone he disagrees with as a loony.

I lived in Utah County for a total of 14 years between 1976 and 1995. I went to high school and college there. I lived there as both a mormon and an ex-mormon, as part of the dominant culture and outside of the dominant culture. If you are not a very conservative republican you can’t be a good mormon, and if you’re not a good mormon you just don’t fit in. I encourage anyone who doesn’t feel welcome to move up here to Salt Lake. 40 miles away and the people are courteous and accepting of diversity.

I lived in a boarding house with visiting professors and students from the People’s Republic of China who told me that Brigham Young University and the Mormon Church were more socially repressive than communist China. This was in the early 90s, just a few years after the Tienanmen square massacre.

Payson is the place where I got my ass kicked by rednecks in 1985 for wearing an earring and having my hair dyed blue. I told a cop about it and he told me that “my kind” weren’t welcome there. At the time I was a college student and an active duty army veteran serving in the reserves, but all he could see was a 21 year old punk with blue hair, an earlobe torn halfway off and a leather jacket. Apparently I got what I deserved for being different.

Utah County government is a vasy right-wing conspiracy. The majority of the people who live there are in on it. It’s definitely not a secret. Ex-Tank and fushjoomang, you would both fit right in there.

To add:

“A conservative think tank has ranked Provo as the nation’s most conservative city.” Provo being the hub of Utah County.

Very true! Utah sometimes gets a bad rap, but Salt Lake City really is a diverse and accepting city.

“Salt Lake City was ranked as the 95th most liberal city.” From above link.

Can’t speak for fush but where in the fuck do you get this? I haven’t been to a church in over 15 years, cordially detest police as a group, opposed the war in Iraq, think Mj should be legalised, and the drinking age lowered to 18 (if you can vote, and die for your country, you can have a beer or three, in my book).

I also think that if you join a counterculture that glorifies illegal drug use and ducking the law, then you should be prepared to be despised and hunted with a passion by cops, notably moreso in certain areas than others.

That’s not conservatism, “right wing,” or anything conspiracy-based.

That’s common sense.

Horse manure, pure and simple. I personally know more than a few good Democrats who just so happen to be good Mormons.

In Utah county? Do they actively support ‘democratic’ causes like planned parenthood, equal rights for gays, including the right to marry and adopt children? If so, they would be a very very small minrity of the active LDS in utah County. Sorry for not being more specific, Monty, but we were talking in the context of Utah County. Have you been there?

Excuse me for addressing what you actually said instead of what you meant to say.

Let’s see…The beatnicks, surfers, hippies, bikers, punks, and now ravers all used drugs. They all got beat up by cops. Which counter culture are you talking about? Gays? When I did drugs, they were always great people to score high-quality, clean pharmaceutical drugs from. When I got my ass kicked for having blue hair, I remember someone calling me a faggott.

You’re not a cop, are you? I sure hope not. You sound like a bully and an asshole.

No, it sounds like an excuse to kick the shit out of someone for being different.

Not reall a whoosh but here: “Look back to the 1960’s for an example of how to conduct your counter-culture without having The Man get into your face all the damned time.” ExTank was saying they did get harrassed by law enforcement, just not all the damned time. See?

Oookayyyyy.

Anything else you want to accuse me of? :dubious:

The sinking of the Titanic? The Lindbergh kidnapping? JFK assasination? Global warming?

Dude. Lay off the drugs unless the nice doctor tells you they’re good for you. :wally

I see that. But ExTank seemed to be saying that they were able to avoid harrassment most so ravers should use them as an example to emulate. Oe maybe it was an example to avoid? It’s not entirely clear what the point of that comment was. But then, that’s not too surprising.

I can believe that. I lived in Payson , 275N 300E in fact. A horrible little adobe house. I was a respectible looking guy with a wife and kid so I was left alone for the most part (except for a blood fued with the municiple electric company) but I could definately imagine how much hell it would have been to live there if I wasnt.

I’m sorry to pop in to an interesting thread covering civil rights, drug use and crowd safety, but this caught my eye:
