Personal ad experiment

I remember reading about an experiment conducted where two personal ads were placed in magazines (pre-internet dating). They were both profiles of women - one admitted to being overweight, and the other admitted to being a drug addict. The profile for the drug addict attracted far more replies than the one for the overweight woman. Does anyone else remember this? Can anyone point me to a source?

I can’t help with the actual question but, I had a buddy who ran an ad in the personals back in the '80’s that said:

I WANT WOMAN!
respond to ad#123456

He said that he got a LOT of “action” off of the ad!

Unclviny

One bump, in case the week-day crowd have heard of this experiment.
