Persons planning to vote for Clinton: Are you really just voting against Trump?s

I liked Sanders a lot but I like Hillary better than a lot of people in my circle, who are grudgingly voting for her. I think she’s tough as hell, far tougher than a lot of the politicians that have been around. And why shouldn’t she be? She’s a woman in what is still a very male world.

For Hillary. I would have preferred her over Obama in 2008, but I voted for him in the primaries because I thought he was more electable, not because he was my preferred candidate. I’m very happy to have the opportunity to vote for her now.

I’ll be voting for Hillary. Trump isn’t driving me to it.

The simple fact is that the Republican Party is busy tearing itself to pieces as a downstream consequence of its own decisions over the last 30 years or so. Until it gets through that process and begins functioning as a party - no orthodoxy, true big tent, learning to play well with others and so forth - it won’t be capable of producing a truly qualified presidential candidate that can get through the nomination process.

Are there candidates I might prefer to Hillary? Sure, but Sanders isn’t one of them. He’s a non-serious gadfly who aimed at pot-stirring rather than winning. Still, Hillary with be a fine President and has the ability to set up the next two or three democratic Presidential candidates if she does things right.

I would vote for any of the Democratic candidates over any of the Republicans – it’s both, in my case… a vote for the Democrat, and against the Republican.

I’m at the point where I will go vote for her even if it is raining. But, I won’t do much more than that. I won’t give her money or slap a bumper sticker on my car or anything like that.

I’m absolutely voting against Trump. My first choice would have been Biden. But as it stands, Trump MUST be defeated and Clinton is the only one with a chance of doing that.

That said. I don’t see Clinton as a mistake or in any way bad for America. Just not my first choice.

Like her fine. Yeah, I love Joe, but he’s had his innings. Voting against Trump is just a bonus.

Hillary Clinton was my preferred choice in 2008, although I was happy enough to vote for Barack Obama in the general elections. I will be quite happy to vote for her this fall and not merely because Donald Trump is her opponent.
ETA: 2008-vintage thread I posted about her

I, along with probably about 90% of the voters, would have liked a better choice - maybe even a real choice between worthy candidates.

It’s been HRC since back when, and nothing has changed the picture except to make fringe voting far more dangerous, no matter what your politics or viewpoint.

Not happy about it, but she is competent. And, as twenty-plus years of public grilling have shown, trustworthy. It could have been worse.

Am I really voting against Trump?

Nope. Not at all!

Where do you get that 90% number? The majority of the HRC supporters I know think she is an excellent choice and needs no apology.

I’m voting for Clinton. She’s got the experience in government, knows how Washington works, and is unflappable.

Perfect choice? No, but it’s not just voting against Trump. I’m voting for Hillary.

I’m in for Clinton.
If someone like Bush or Kasich were still in it I’d allow them to bend my ear a bit to state their case since I find them both reasonable and professional. I’d still probably end up disliking their positions compared to Hillary though.
Trump being dumber than a box of rocks is however not worth my time. I formed an opinion of him a long time ago and he’s never done anything to change it.

For Clinton. Best of the available Democratic candidates, even if not the best candidate ever.

I’d vote for the proverbial ham sandwich over Trump, come to that, but I don’t have to.

I know who the bologna sandwich was (Vermont), but the ham sandwich?

This applies for me as well. I enthusiastically donated to her 2016 campaign as soon as she announced it and have been excited to see her win the nomination.

Yes, my vote is far more anti-Trump than pro-Hillary. It is a lesser-of-two-evils election for me, unlike in 2008 and 2012, due to her untrustworthiness and my doubts that she’ll be able to get much done with a GOP-controlled Congress. I agree with her on most issues, though.

I’m not a fan of Hillary, but I think she’s been unfairly (and unsuccessfully) persecuted by the Republicans for over 20 years.

I would have preferred a new generation of Democratic party leaders, as they’re all in their 70’s these days, but alas, we don’t see a lot of younger, charismatic standouts with the necessary experience.

All that said, I’m with her. I’m voting for Hillary. She may be a corporatist-centrist, but she certainly is not a batshit insane conservative or a performer of trumpery.

You do see the logical lapse in your post, right?

I’ve seen polls up into this range on a yes/no basis as to whether they are satisfied with the choice of candidates.

By the way, Elendil’s Heir, what “untrustworthiness” do you mean that doesn’t stem mostly from 20+ years of GOP smear tactics? Both Clintons have been exonerated on every charge except Bill’s philandering, which (IMHO) is their business, not ours.

I would vote for Clinton over any other democrat that was up this election cycle and really any other that could legally run against her, I would take Obama and Bill over her though. That said I would vote for absolutely anyone running against Trump, so as much as i like Clinton I can’t call my vote anything besides a “not Trump” vote.
