Awwwwwwwww . . .
They look so sweet together. Do be warned, two cats friends can get into much more trouble than two cats who live in the same home.
What a goof
I’ve tried to get a pic with Max’s hair up. It was “deflating” a bit by the time I got the shot. Because he’s only a “mostly dachshund” his hair is smooth, but longer than a full doxie. His Shih Tzu and Pekinese genes make his hair longer than normal. When his hair is fully up from the back of his head to his butt he looks like a dinosaur. He also has a hairy belly.
But he was naughty today, and I abetted him.
Mama duck had been nesting (?) in the bush behind this tree. This is outside our across-the-path neighbor’s townhouse. She was not happy because the plumber working in the area with the orange fence around it was using a jack hammer. She came out to quack at him.
That was a few days ago. I figured she might have left – what with all the noise – and when Max wanted to sniff over there, I let him take a few steps into the ivy. Well. Mama was not gone, and she came flapping out of the bush. I dragged Max out of there and took him inside, then I watched from our window. She stayed vigilant for a couple of minutes, then went back under the bush. Max wanted to go out again about 20 minutes later, and while he did pee, I think he wanted to investigate Mama duck (he has a very high prey drive). But I kept him well away. I had to drag him a bit, but he didn’t get to scare her this time.
Meet Simi! Simi is a 13 week old purebred Coconut Retriever. He is one of my gf’s god-puppies in St Martin (she pays for his care).
We are on the island for two weeks, and visited Ursula (dog rescuer) as usual. She “convinced” us to bring Simi home with us.
Simi is Very Cute! A keeper.
Are you bringing him home just for the two weeks and then returning him to Ursula, or are you bringing him all the way home with you when you leave?
(And if you think it’s the first, is Ursula thinking it might turn into the second?)
That pup is going to be a moose once he grows into those paws! Nice to know he’s already an expert at the vital dog skill of serious napping.
I had to google coconut retriever , Simi looks like she (?) is from a fine lineage, congrats on the new pup.
His paw looks almost as big as his head. Is it a trick of perspective, or is it really that huge?
Cute puppy, BTW.
Heh, the paws think is pure perspective. He’s definitely coming home to the US when we return. He spent the day at Dawn Beach yesterday, sleeping under my chair. I have a feeling this was all planned out behind my back.
Me too, I thought @kayaker was pulling our legs! He’s a crazy dog man, you know.
We’ve been involved in dog rescue in St Martin for years now, so Coconut Retriever is part of our vocabulary. Island dogs are so damn cool.

Pix of said canine actually retrieving a coconut or change the breed name.
Bob has traded the chaise lounge in the sun for a couch with a soft pillow. Perfecting the relaxation paradigm one piece of furniture at a time.
Simi made it home with us!! What a good boy. He was in his under seat approved carrier from 11 am Saturday until 11 pm Saturday due to multiple flight delays. His pee pad was dry when we landed in Pittsburgh.
He wasn’t thrilled with the cold weather (neither were we). My gf googled “homemade dog coat”. I went to grab my hoodie because I was cold and an arm was missing.
He’s got good ear game. Shows character.
Definitely a good boy! And I thought I lucked out with Poe not peeing in his carrier when we drove home 6 hours from his breeder in central Maine.
Now there’s a pup who definitely knows how to relax and fully embrace a life of leisure!
Bob apparently doesn’t know that his Shepherd/Mastiff ancestry is supposed to make him a working dog! Does Bob even know what “work” is?
