This poor puppy was attacked by a cougar. It was bravely saved by the owner’s father, who first kicked the cougar in the head then beat it off with a stick.
The dog was taken to the vet, treated, and is doing fine. Conservation officers later found the cougar and put it down.
Death is always to be lamented. But this poor pup did nothing to deserve to be attacked. The cougar was deemed a danger to the public. The guy who saved the dog did so at the risk of his own life. The dog and his rescuer could both have been killed.
The cougar did nothing to “deserve” being killed. It was just being a cougar. They need to eat.
It may indeed have been necessary to kill the cougar – I don’t know enough about the overall situation to have an opinion about that. But that still wouldn’t have anything to do with what either the cougar or the dog “deserved”.
Instant buds.
Those ears looks like they will be able to accurately locate the opening of a snack at 100 yards.
In fact , so do Kizzys
I guess you are never snacking alone again ever.
It’s funny how dogs almost always get along, much better than humans. I used to take Bernie the Bernese out to the dog park, and he’d frolic and play with all dogs of all colours and all sizes, including dogs that were literally much less than a quarter of his size. A friend had a German Shepherd, and naturally, she and Bernie became the best of friends.
The humourist Dave Barry wrote a book that was not intended to be particularly funny so much as a late-life retrospective, called Lessons From Lucy. Lucy is his dog, and it’s so true: there’s so much we can learn from these honest and forthright animals who know how to make the most of life.
That seems to be one of Kizzy’s super powers. If a dog is shy, she’ll approach slowly and allow the other dog to warm up slowly. If the other dog is wild and crazy, Kizzy joins in on that.
If a person wants to interact with her, Canine Good Citizen training taught her to wait until we tell her to say hi.
Hopefully she will continue to teach Simi all of this.
I’ve always had dachshunds, and I can’t tell you how many people have told me their German Shepherd/Pit Bull/Great Dane’s favorite dog friend was a dachshund. And I have no doubt the dachshund dominated the relationship.
He just got a confirmed diagnosis of Cushing’s Disease last week. Only a week on his medication, and already it appears his pot belly (typical Cushing’s symptom) is smaller. He turns 13 in two weeks, but should have close to a normal life.
We continue introducing Simi to all the dog friendly breweries in our area. Leaning Cask Saturday, and VooDoo Sunday (they do a Sunday brunch). Simi liked the sand, it reminded him of home.
Bobby has recruited some disciples in his relaxation cult. Willow and Martin (who my sister was convinced would never get along with Bob) join in. Martin is still quite happy on the floor and Willow prefers upside-down relaxation; she needs all the extra blood to the brain she can get.
