He is very snuggly when he’s not pushing a toy against you over and over.
Went to the vet yesterday, asked for more guesses. Got all the above, depending on who answered. Seems to settle on Terrier/whippet/something (chi or min-pin). According to them I seriously miscalculated on selecting a “small” dog. I expected a max of 20 lbs. or so. Vet guesses she’ll top out over 40. (She passed 20 lbs. this week.)
As promised above. Here’s Lucy standing on her hind legs at the kitchen table.
We’ve been very satisfied with Wisdom DNA tests on our dogs. Simi, who we brought back from a rescue in St Martin, has a ton of different breeds in his background, including Peruvian Inca Orchid.
The analysis also hooked us up with a related dog whose owner ok’d sharing. She adopted her dog 8 years before we brought Simi home. She got her dog from St Martin from the same rescue individual we know!!! When we contacted Ursula she remembered the dog.
She looks a lot like Cole, who is 2-ish and 47#. Here’s his Wisdom results:

There’s a free iPhone app called “dog scanner.”
I tried it on Iggy, and get a different breed every time I use it. It does seem to correctly identify him as a dog, though.
This is Loki. She’s really attached to me and I’m going through a gout attack secondary to extensor tendonitis.
She knows my foot is an issue, so she keeps trying to cuddle up to it, which hurts like a mf. My gf made me a foot shield so I can ice it in peace. Loki means well.
Pug, Boston Terrier, and Frenchie?
I would love to have a dog like that.
Mu Shu Pancake looks awesome!
I just LOVE those ears.
With the size of those paws, no doubt.
She’s adorable. So sleek and shiny.
With her sort of delicate bone structure and pointy snout, I’d guess there’s sighthound in there. Could also be something like Manchester terrier – which could also account for those ears.
Her paws seem deceptively big in the second picture, but I’m thinking it’s just because they’re closer to the camera?
He really is. Part of why we got him is that my kids were talking about wanting a Papillon, a Corgi, or a Chihuahua. They also liked French Bulldogs, so I jumped at the chance to get a dog I’d connect with, too. Toy and herding breeds are just not for me.
My previous two dogs have been pit bull mixes – one pit + maybe some bulldog a generation or two back, and one (Gracie) who was a pit + boxer mix, so we are used to the short-nose breeds, but this guy is on a whole other level. And we’re learning a lot about French-Bulldog-specific issues.
We’ve already had to get some “wrinkle cream” (basically diaper cream) and get used to wiping inside his wrinkles daily, because they get moist and then inflamed. Now he has canine acne, for which he needs special shampoo and more face wiping. And even though he’s short haired and spends most of the day inside, he gets a stinky dog smell about a week after a bath. Oh, and speaking of stink, his insides are apparently a toxic gas factory.
This was severely exacerbated when we first got him because he had a giardia infection. Between his sulfur-farts and really loud snoring (louder than my spouse) I had to go sleep in another room the first night. Clearing up the giardia has only made the gas less frequent. We thought our last dog was gassy, but she couldn’t hold a candle to Mu Shu.
He gets reverse sneezing bouts, where he sounds like he sort of forgets how to breathe properly. Very exciting in the middle of the night.
He’s also pretty smart, but very stubborn. He’s caught on to everything I’ve tried to teach him within ten repetitions. But if he doesn’t want to do it, he won’t, period. Which I guess is another Frenchie thing. Luckily for him, he’s also adorable and a huge goofball, and a great snuggler.
Probably no one should.
I’d say she is a 50/50 mix of adorable and probable chaos.
I believe this is how my wife feels about me. Thankfully, she’s always cold, so I also have the advantage of generating a lot of waste heat, which makes me useful as a hot water bottle. Which, come to think of it, is probably why our Savanah cat likes me…
Good kitty. I miss my Mort; he was the best hot water bottle when I had an upset stomach. It’s almost two years that he’s gone now. I’ve thought about getting a buddy for Bob and I was considering another cat, but I don’t know if Bob’s got it in him to be chill around another little critter in his life. He’s right on point with his squirrel game … he’ll stalk up to about a foot from them as long as they stand still, but a full time ball of fur fucking with him might not work out.
Mort was a very cute kitty, but Bob is totally huggably adorable! You’re lucky to have each other!
Good dog! (she means well anyway, right?).
@Tride That’s almost exactly what I expect Lucy will be (when she grows up).
Yes. The camera is skewing things. Her paws look about right (not huge).
We’ve discovered a weird thing: Lucy sees her image in the mirror, and is apparently convinced it is a window with another dog in it. Our bathroom (full length) mirror fascinates her, and she presses the side of her head against it, apparently trying to peer into the rest of the “other room”. She’s delighted by the appearance of the other dog and wants to play.
She also watches the TV, and gets really interested sometimes. I’m not sure if she’s seeing images or just drawn by the colors, sounds, etc.
Add my compliments and squees for Mu Shu Pancake. Adorable!
“She means well” could be Loki’s slogan.
Cheddar is a sweetie. 10 months and rules her brothers with an iron paw.
